Canadian vs US Type-S options/features

I've been reading the specs sheets on both websites and there seems to be a difference in options between the two.

-Canadian choices in colour combos is very limited. If you want black interior your stuck with red, blue, gold- US optional y-spoke wheels and p-zero tires while Cdn is standard
US gets power folding mirrors
Canadians gets surround view camera
Canadians gets heated steering wheel
Not sure if I'm missing anything else but I guess we'll know for sure when these cars land at the delear's

I believe power folding mirrors is standard also on the Canadian Type-S.

It is standard on the Platinum Elite trim even though the Acura Canada spec sheet doesn't mention this feature.

I don't think canadians get surround view camera... My sales rep in Alberta, Canada told me the Type S doesn't get surround view cam.

We do get heated steering wheel though.

The only missing option for Cad Type S is HUD. Everything else, including surround cameras is included. Check the latest spec sheet on Canadian site. It is listed there....

WTF...why is it that these car companies restrict the 360 camera on first year in the US?

The Kia Stinger did the same thing with the 360 camera when it came out...only to add it to the US spec cars a couple years later.

Likely adding later to keep their cars "fresh"

I am always amazed that the car companies have different specs for CAD and US markets. I understand AWD, heated car seats and remote start as most of Canadian provinces would need these features due to harsh winter. But not having surrounded camera, power folding mirror or different interior/exterior color. WHY????

Designing and outfitting something as complex as a car can be very challenging. It always boils down to a series of trade-offs, some are driven by regulations, others by local preferences/needs and target price points, and still others may be by things as odd as profit margins or Exchange Rates.

Regulations: For many years Canadian vehicles required DRL (daytime running lights), but US versions did not. Eventually, standardized to everyone's relief.

Local needs: As mentioned Canadian vehicles (as well as many cold weather US destinations) need heated seats, heated steering wheels, and AWD makes good sense. Much of the US market does not demand these. Also the SIZE of the market drives what a company is willing to modify. Niche markets often get short changed.

Target Price Points and Margins: Marketing says "We need to have the vehicle price in the range of x to x in order to compete with Brand X". Accounting says "We need to make X margin on vehicles to justify the product line". Often the competing requirements end up with horse trading.... We gotta have X (feature) in this market, so we'll give up Y (feature) in exchange. Also some features don't always place nice if added or deleted from the final version. Think wiring harnesses, etc.

Exchange rates: Consumers and companies don't like uncertainty. Wildly fluctuating exchange rates because of global sourcing can play havoc with economics.

These are just a few considerations that drive Planners crazy and result in different specs for different markets. One way to look at it is to consider the readers and contributors to this website. Some folks want high performance, others have ideas about appearance, others want driving comfort, still others want the latest tech features. The auto maker wants to find the sweet spot... satisfy the most folks while making a reasonable profit.
