Backup cam in darkness

Hi All,

I have a '21 Advance and have been plagued by an issue with the backup camera for over a year now. When backing out of my garage at night, the backup camera does not switch from day to night mode and I cannot see anything but the superimposed guidelines on the screen. Occasionally, it will switch to night mode (maybe once every 50 times) and it looks like it should.

Anyone else have this issue?

A bit of additional context...
I live in a very rural area with no street lights so it is very dark when I am backing out.
It is not time dependent - in that, I have sat in reverse in my garage for more than 2 minutes waiting to see if the camera adjusts but it does not.
I have been to to the dealer for service but no luck. I think their biggest predicament is they cannot replicate the issue in the shop.
I have recorded videos of the issue and emailed to my service dealer. They've not heard / seen this before.
When it works (when I can actually see images at night), everything seems perfect so I know it "works".
Daytime backup setting works just fine without any issue.

Just checking with this group to see if you have had/seen anything like this before.

Thanks in advance.

The camera on mine adjusts within 15 secs. Maybe you could have them reflash the camera software and see if that fixes it? Or maybe the light sensor is dirty or needs replacement?

That's good feedback. Local dealer says they've never seen this before nor have any tech bulletins on issue. I'll keep that in mind and mention to dealer when I take it back in.

I have a '21 Advance as well and have the same issue. If it's dark out with no lights helping out, the backup camera is totally useless. I didn't even know there was a night mode.

RWG105 - I will keep you posted if I get any kind of solution. Hoping to hear from dealer on next step this week.

rwg105 - Yep. That's what mine looks like too. Occasionally (like maybe 1 out of 50 times) it will work but usually looks just like yours. I did hear from my dealer and they are going to replace the camera. Luckily I purchased the extended electronics warranty as the manufacture's base warranty just expired. Of course, the camera is on back order so it is a waiting game now...

Will keep you posted if this is indeed the fix.
