I hold nothing against the TLX, but I wonder why?

 

Easy to steal and there is a demand for it and its parts overseas, which is where a lot end up. They get boosted left and right in my area (Philly) and if you know where to go you could see quite a few that were being stripped down.

 

Holy crap, makes IGLA sound like a sound investment! Acura better step up their security game!

 

I miss the bling factor of my old Performance Red 21 A-Spec but I don't miss the very strong possibility of it being snatched up here in Jersey.

 

Not too long ago I pull into a lot and a guy pulls in right next to me almost immediately. I get out and he immediately starts with nice car, nice color - fairly common of course. But then he says oh it's the AWD model. Looks inside, goes up front, really studies the car. I stayed the whole time watching for the air tag to be placed. He walked away. I ran in quickly, drove to another parking lot and ran a tag scan and a Life tag scan (apparently they don't get picked up except by the Life app?) - all clean. Still paranoia was kicking hard for the next 10 days.

 

I hope you have a kill switch installed, living on LI with the Type-S is like when the Integra Type-R came out and they were getting stolen left & right.

 

I guess good news/bad news if you own one. I owned a 3G Type S and don’t remember theft being as big an issue. Perhaps there were simply more of them or the fact the TLX manufacturing has an end date.

 

This does not surprise me in the slightest bit. A little over a year ago, someone smashed in the window on my 2021 TLX a little over a year ago while it was parked at my girlfriends house. There was nothing (NOTHING AT ALL) left out in the open at all, as I keep my interior clean and tidy. Nothing was missing either. My Dad suspected that they tried to steal the car, due to Honda’s reputation for being easy to steal cars (he is an old head) and he’s probably right. I was up until about 4 AM that night too, and did not even hear an alarm go off which is insane considering all of my Mercedes that are 15+ years old will sound the alarm when you merely bump the car hard enough, let alone break a window.

 

Well, atleast thr TLX leads in something. It's that kinda thrill 😭

Funnily enough I ran into Bear last year on BimmerPost Forums with his M4 Competition xDrive Convertible, he told me he kinda miss it over here despite it being "Pretty dead" he also said he "-always enjoyed the back & forth" with members on here.

That bear was something else back around the release of the 2G TLX and the subsequent Type-S unveiling

 

I actually want to avoid him.....well...mainly because I traded my TLX for a BMW!

I didnt have any issue with his participation in the TLX discussion, save for the ultimate digression into all things BMW.

 

I was just at my Acura dealership in Maryland and my advisor informed me that Honda/Acura is testing an updated wiring harness for the OBD port in several models. This would prevent thieves from making keys via OBD port without additional authorization. Not sure when this will become available.

Apparently, the dealership owner’s Type S was stolen right from the dealership lot! Obviously, Acura/Honda owners are complaining and have every right. The squeaky wheel gets the grease!

In the meantime, I added a good OBD lock to my 25 Type S and keep my keys in faraday pouches. I telework full time and my car is always in the garage and put on very little miles. Therefore, I’m not spending about $1500 to add something like IGLA. I’ve heard a few say they were stranded when their IGLA security code didn’t work and car had to be towed to IGLA dealer (which are hard to find). If you’re out of town and no IGLA dealers around, you’re screwed. I know it’s pretty rare but I don’t ever want to be in that situation.

 

I have not heard about Igla stranding people, but still it is a concern of mine. I asked Igla that exact question a few months back and Paul from Igla responded "The Igla system has been designed so that if it fails you lose the security, and the vehicle will start as normal."

I have a Faraday box, and may add the OBD lock. And I may just get Igla (been back and forth since I bought the car), but first I will do more research on people getting stranded.

The system is complex, and I would guess most people could get "lost" in the system and be stranded. Happen to my wife and I a couple of times, but that made us understand exactly how it works and what to do if it start acting (and all times, it was our fault!).
But once you understand it, I don't think you can get stranded.

 

I had the IGLA installed into my '25 TLX Type S and I wasn't given instructions, or really anything that had to do with the system failing. My installer wouldn't even tell me where the module is installed, I am guessing somewhere in the dash but I haven;'t really looked.for it. I asked about it the system failing and was told that it doesn't happen, which I knew was impossible. I even reached out to IGLA when I was evaluating the system and here was their response:

The IGLA is a reliable device and many of our devices have been in operation for a decade or more without the need for replacement or servicing.

While I can understand not wanting to share your knowledge publicly, can you dm me?

 

the best was when the Bear was disagreeing when I stated brake fluid had to be replaced every 3-4 years. He thought brake fluid was a lifetime fluid or something
