4 cylinder turbo concerns

4 cylinder turbo concerns
Just read that Acura did NOT use the 4 cylinder Turbo in the new 2022 MDX, since the 4 cylinder turbo had WORSE fuel economy, responsiveness (e.g. actual real performance), and refinement than the outgoing 290 HP V6. Wow. Worse in many areas that count.
So....if Acura kept the 290 V6 and mated with the new 10 speed, we'd have a winner for fuel economy, actual performance, and refinement. The ZF9 always held back the awesome V6. They should've kept it with the 10 speed tranny in the TLX. 0-60 in the new turbo 4 is much worse than the outgoing 1G TLX V6 with the ZF9. It'd probably be even better with a properly implemented 10 speed.

I have a few theories, first the MDX is now their top rung car and thus people that will spend in excess of $60K will not want a buzzy 4 banger and will want the smooth sound and feel of the V6 and won’t miss the extra torque the Turbo would add.
I think the I4 Turbo makes sense in the lighter sedans. Granted I am not a fan of the I4 in my wife’s RDX and can’t imagine it in the TLX as I love my V6. I assume it is fine in the TLX as that is where most cars are headed to smaller turbos to give you the torque and fuel economy and emissions advantages.
I still wonder how these Tubo I4s will do in 10 years. I know the Honda V6 is a monster and almost indestructible and I would have no issue keeping my 19 TLX for 10 years and expecting the V6 to be rock solid for upward of 200K miles, not sure I would feel that confident in a turbo 4.

My 2.3T in my 08 RDX with +175,000 miles is still going strong. The 1st Gen RDX is around the same 2 tons as the 2nd Gen TLX sh-awd adv. I only had a 5AT; but, never saw above 22 mpg ever because I was always in turbo boost (live/drive +5000 feet, hwy speed limit 75-80 mph).
