Who pushed the Open Trunk button?

I have discovered that I might be hitting the "trunk open" button with my knee upon entering the car sometimes, unless the seatbelt is pressing the trunk open button on the key fob in my pocket as I start to drive off.. or, I have a ghost!

Every so often, I start to drive and get the "Trunk Open" alarm/alert because the trunk opened.. at first I thought it was a freaky anomaly ie. the car doing crap on its own.. but then I did bump the portion of the dash with my right knee when I was getting in a time or 2 and that could be it.

It happens so intermittently that I can't pin it down to one thing.

Anyone else discovered this ghost in the machine?

I mention it today because it was raining like hell this morning and had to get out to close the trunk... I melted a bit.

Just thinking out loud here, but try the keyfob in a different pocket (location) maybe? Does your seat power back such that you may have enough room to exit/enter without the knee bump?

I'll try a different pocket with the fob.. I am, 6'4, the seat is all the way back, it's more of my mechanics of getting in, I think. If I'd sit down first, then swing my legs in, there'd be no issue

Yep - mine seemingly opened on it's own once - unless it's got a hair-trigger button that I inadvertently hit . My 13 Accord did that on occasion as well.

Whew, it isn't only me. It's not really a problem needing a fix other than fob location in my pocket. I am pretty sure it's the fob instead of knee hitting the button... if it was my knee, the open trunk alert would be glaring at start up, I'd think.

Hmm - I'm pretty sure I wasn't pressing the button on my fob - I keep it in my coat pocket (not pants) and it seems highly unlikely that something would be pressing on it in there but I suppose anything is possible.

Here's the thread from DA on the same thing happening on the Accord - click ->HELP!...My 2013 Accord Sport trunk opens by itself - Drive Accord Honda Forums

Mine was doing it as well - until I noticed one time that my knee nicked it while getting in (it doesn't take much). I have since adjusted my entry contortions, and magically it stopped.

Hmmm - so now we have 3 people who have somehow accidentally popped the trunk lid?????

Looks like we're in early on the next class action suit!!

Stew,

Here is another reason the 4G TL is better than the TLX It doesn't have self opening ghost trunks, which might cause trunk to pop open, and obscure your rear view=accident/death=lawyer!

This happened to me once, but I assumed it was just because I hit the keyfob button or something by accident. It's never happened again. I'll definitely be suing right after I finish suing for no exposed tailpipes and skinny tires. They haven't heard the last of me.

Let's find and attorney. Nothing bad continues to happen with my car but these minor first world problems keep popping up!

Why hasn't Acura implemented a confirmation command??

Are you sure you want to:
Open the trunk?
Open the Fuel Entry Portal?
Change mode from, P to R?
Etc.
I want to sue them for not having that available as a setting! I am getting tired of this crap! Who do they think they are? Merrill Lynch?

Funny, my coworker with a SH-AWD just told me a couple days ago he thinks there's a problem with the trunk switch/sensor because he randomly get's a trunk open message. He asked if mine does the same thing. It hasn't so far.

So - I see a trend here. Given the fact that the 9th gen Accord had the same mysterious issue I suspect this may be real.

Thoughts?

Your coworker gets the message but is the trunk open as well?

This is getting strange.. my trunk popped open again slightly about a minute after I left work today as I was driving.. at least that when I saw the warning. I guess the deck lid gave the deck lid enough downforce that it closed with an audible thud.

Looks like another dealership visit!

What are the chances of them reproducing it though? I still don't know if I am doing it somehow!

Where do you guys usually put your keyfob as you drive? In your pocket or next to you somewhere? I know the time my trunk was open, mine was in my jacket pocket and it could've very well been pressed up against the seat belt. But the time this happened to me, I don't recall seeing any "trunk open" light like mentioned above. I kind of assumed I may have accidentally pressed it or forgot to close it all the way.

In my right pants pocket, next to the seat belt clip.........
That's why I am not sure if it's me.. I have been keeping my keys in that pocket 40+ years.. hard to change that habit

Yep - when mine popped open I wasn't more than 15 seconds from the house. My fob is in my coat - nothing pressing against it there.

I've had both my gas door and trunk pop open periodically. In my case it's the way I get in the car. Both buttons are on a hair trigger so a light brush is enough to cause the gas door and trunk to open. They should have made the action "press and hold".

^I agree. I am pretty sure I am touching those buttons some how. A 1 second hold delay for the button press would be nice for that

I have been extra mindful the last 2 days of both how I get in and where my keys are in my pocket. So far, no open trunk warnings

Do you guys have the seat set to move back when you get into and out of the car?

Haven't had this issue on my car, but my seats move back automatically.

I keep mine all the way back so my legs can slide under the steering wheel,, I do wish the car had auto steering wheel raise/retract.

I have been more conscientious on where my key fob is when I sit down and buckle my seat belt and I have been careful not to bump the buttons with my knee... no ghost opening of the trunk in several days

In my previous car (an 08 Cadillac CTS) there were many times where I'd press the lock or unlock on my remote just by bending down to pick up something off the floor or just moving around. I think that my particular issue was the pants would get to a point where they'd compress around my leg depending on how I was moving and it would press the button. I haven't had this problem with my TLX, but I was offering a simple explanation that did happen with a remote from another vehicle. I never really knew how it happened, but I was always near the car when it activated.

Of course, I've also had cars where I'd inadvertently hit buttons getting in and out of as well so that could be part of the problem.

Hope you get it figured out.

Same thing happened to me the second day I got my TLX! It was my knee brushing up on that button. I've adjusted my entry into the vehicle and no more truck pops. The TLX rides low compared to my truck so I had an adjustment period.

There is a valet switch in the glove box that will shut off the trunk release button in the car. The switch is in the glove box on the side closest to the center console.
