Sun Visor Squeals!

My wonderful 2018 TLX has a driver's sun visor that nowt squeals like stuck pig when I try (with difficulty) to turn it down or back up. I've tried carefully spraying a little lubricant in the support rod end....no help at all. It's not obvious to me how to even take the thing apart to see what's wrong. Any help appreciated! Try removing it from the car, and spraying some silicone lubricant where you think it squeaks. Silicone spray will not stain.
If you put too much silicone, there is a risk that the visor will be over-lubed and may not stay in place when deployed.

Thanks TSXV6Guy, I had tried the silicone lube and my spray can of that stuff had a nice long plastic nozzle so I could reach in to what appeared to be the squeal location. If anything it made the squeal worse, which I found strange. It made me suspicious that the "bearing" inside the visor might be a dry felt sort of thing and the silicone puffed it up even more, generating the noise. It did not help the high effort it takes to lower the visor either. I've tried the silicone again then a general purpose light lubricant, still no progress. Another detail that surprises me is that the nice chromed support rod for the visor is not round, but has several small facets on it. That must be part of what makes the visor stay in a given position. If the Acura dealer was not 100 km away I'd just drop by for their help, but it's not worth a special trip so I might try the local Honda dealership. I don't use the visor often anyway but I always fix anything broken as a matter of principal. Thanks for the support, Doug

You can buy a new visor from a mailorder Acura dealer and then a honda dealer or any mechanic should be able to install.

I did the same for my RSX because after 20 years it started flopping. Youtubes showed it was pretty easy to swap myself but there was a chance you could scratch the headliner, so I had my Acura dealer do it because I have a good relationship with my SA and knew he would replace the headliner if his tech screwed up.

Acura dealer replaced the visor and replaced my rearview mirror (started to rust so I mailordered another one) for 30 min labor combined.

Thanks MVL. It pushes me towards taking my wife to Halifax for a nice lunch, leaving the car with Acura (after making an appointment so they have a replacement visor if that's the solution) and picking the car up, repaired and heading home. Probably the best approach. Minor issue but I do like to keep on top of them, and my TLX is a really great cr....5 years old and good as new. Appreciate your support, Doug
