squeaky e-brake

Anyone else having an issue with a squeaky e-brake? I assume the mechanical sound is normal, but there's a fairly loud squeak when my e-brake engages. Hopefully it's just and adjustment.

I just notice mine, so I haven't had a chance to go to the dealership about it yet. There do not seem to be any TSBs with this symptom, so hopefully it just needs to be adjusted.

Mine squeaks on engagement as well. I can really hear it when I park in the garage.

I got that noise when I first got the car. I guess there must be some sort of solenoid that pulled the wires, so it making squeaky noise when it does. I thought that is normal hahaha

Do folks keep their foot on the break while setting the electronic parking brake? If not, does doing so make any difference?

I always leave my foot on the brake until the parking brake is set.

Mine does not do that. I only hear the mechanical sound. Sounds like something needs to be lubricated in yours. Mine sounds more like a mechanical whine which goes down in pitch as it engages. That's totally normal. If it's making a squeaky (like metal on metal) or grindy sound, that's not normal.

I hear the mechanical engagement sound as well. Part squeaking, part creaking, hard to describe it, but very noticeable. I'm sure Acura would tell you your parking brake is behaving within in normal parameters.

Have had mine replaced twice in the RLX and now TLX is doing the same. Service rep told me American Honda has put a hold on replacing any more until they can pinpoint the problem.

I totally get using the parking brake on hilly terrain, and I've spent time in the Woodlands and lived Houston, and hilly it ain't! LOL
So what gives? Do y'all use the p brake to take load off of the tranny while parked? Fear of it popping into neutral?
In all of my years in auto transmissions I've very rarely felt the need to use the parking brake, but maybe now I need to?

All issues are "normal" according to Acura, until someone bring in a lawyer, sigh.

I use my parking brake as a matter of habit (1), except when parking in my garage or elsewhere on a truly flat surface in winter. Even in winter, I expect that one should use them occasionally so the mechanism (not cables in the electric version, of course) doesn't seize up. I have also noticed that on the TLX, when switching to park, without it there is typically a lurch until the park pawl catches, which probably isn't a great thing, so I have been using its parking brake.

(1) When I was a teenager obtaining on the road drivers' ed, the teacher (our gym teacher, and an ex-marine) strongly encouraged us to use both our parking brakes on our seat belts. I convinced my dad to use seat belts (didn't take much convincing), but the parking brake was another matter. One day I arrived home from school to find our behemoth 1968 Pontiac Station wagon at the bottom of the hill past the end of our driveway (we had a 2+ acre lot). It had "intelligently" managed to avoid hitting the post that had a decorative bell on it, and a number of elm trees. Fortunately, the ground was not wet, and it was easy to drive it back up (my dad was out of town, I think - left it there while a workmate drove them to the airport). So, I developed a habit of engaging the parking brake.

I live in Houston and yes it is pretty flat around here, but my driveway is not flat. I don't use my transmission to keep the car in place. I use the parking brake for that, it was built to do that. I used to drive a manual. I used the parking brake with that car too. Some people put their manual's in gear when they parked them and not use the parking brake. Again, I used the parking brake but I left the transmission in neutral. Jeep had a faulty shift design on their ZF 9 speed which could cause the driver to think it was in Park but it was actually in Neutral. That actor was killed when his car rolled back on him in his driveway. If he had put the Parking brake on he'd still be alive. He probably was not in the habit of using his parking brake. It is habit to me after many years of driving. If my car somehow disengaged from Park in my driveway it is not going anywhere.

I finally had my appointment and I replicated the squeak for the Service Advisor. He said he thought it was a seagull. They had to order a part - actuator. (I don't have a part # or official diagnosis.) I guess the part is back ordered because he said he won't get it until ~9/14. He said he hasn't had to replace this yet on a TLX. He quoted 3 hrs labor - under warranty.

I must not have got the optional Seagull accessory. But I can see how they may make a lot of noise.

I went in to have the e-brake accuator replaced. (It took almost 2 weeks to get the part, and I'm in So. Cal. The dealer said it's not a commonly replaced part.) I mentioned that I feel a vibration at highway speeds also. They replace the accuator, and they also said the front brake rotors (source of shimmy) were warped, and the e-brake squeek wasn't entirely gone so they're going to replace the rear caliper too. They said they'll need an extra day to fix the additional items.

Not MAJOR stuff, so I'm not concerned about having a lemon. I'm actually glad they're being so comprehensive.

Squeeky parking brake

I was just going to ask if anyone knew how to lubricate whatever is squeaking. I guess nothing is that simple anymore. I hate to visit the dealer for something so minor because they have treated me very well on two serious issues I had with our 2016 TLX. For one, they replaced the engine and the other the rear actuators..

I just noticed the same thing today; towards of the end of the parking brake engaging there's a nasty loud squeal, like styrofoam on styrofoam. Unfortunately the car is no longer under bumper-to-bumper warranty, so this would be an out-of-pocket fix if something needs to be done.

Nisy E-Brake

I had the TLX in the dealer yesterday having an alignment, and transmission and brake fluids replaced. I asked about the e-brake and they said could replace the rear calipers for about $2300. They didn't recommend it based on cost/benefit. I asked about the warranty since I paid for a 10 year policy. They are doing some checking. At best, there would be $100 deductible which I would be willing to pay.
Personally, I don't see how the calipers could be making the noise since there is no noise on normal braking.
Stay tuned...

Just heard back from the dealer. The insurance company has agreed to pay the cost for replacing the rear calipers. I am amazed; this is the first claim I made against the extended warranty policy.and they actually agreed to pay. It will be worth the $100 deductible to stop that awful noise.

Did replacing the rear calipers work?

Noisy E-Brake

As noted in a previous post; the dealer replaced the rear calipers under an extended warranty. Seems like an expensive way to go to get rid of a squawk but since it cost me only $100, I had it done. Now there is only a little hum when the brake is applied.
Now I can recommend two good dealerships; Bradshaw in Greenville, SC and Hudson in Augusta, GA.
