be sure to keep detailed documents of your visits to the dealer and each problem that happens.

study the lemon law in your state.

In addition to the advice above from justnspace.. Also keep a record of every time you contact the dealer by phone or even if you stop by for them them to just "listen to or take a look at something". Write down date, time who you spoke with and a summary of what they tell you..

And if they work on the car never leave the dealer without paperwork. Again even if it's once of those "stop by we'll take a look at it situations". If they attempt to repair the car get paperwork.

I may sound crazy but I can't even begin to tell you how helpful this was for me in getting MB to buy back my wife 11 ML350 years ago..

MB initially balked at my request and once I handed the reg rep 9 pages of documentation along with 18 repair orders (my dealership "mistakenly" only provided 6 at the time )he knew I meant business..

Hopefully it doesn't come to this, but better safe than sorry..

I will do that, thanks! I still love the TLX, but the thing is if this one is going to have these kind of problems then I want them to do a buy back or something!! I still want a TLX, but just not one with problems! I mean the car only has 3,000 miles on it

Ok I looked at the Georgia lemon law, it says to qualify I must have given the dealership 3 times to fix the issue, if they fail then I would quality. This is time #1. A day and a half in so far and they don't know whats wrong with it yet. Issues such as this one are covered

Believe me I can relate.. Been there (not with Acura) done that..As mentioned it doesn't hurt to study the lemon laws in your state.

Because in NY the law is pretty clear in that the dealer not only gets 3 attempts to correct the problem. But if the vehicle is out of service for 30 or more days within 2 years or I think it's 15K miles you qualify under the law..

So definitely check it out, and don't rush the dealer to give you your car back if the law in your state is similar. And NEVER mention lemon law to them.. YET.. Let it play out first. Good luck.

Yes, any attempt they make during this service visit to fix it is considered "attempt #1".. As soon as you leave (with paperwork) and return attempt #2 is on the clock... And so on....

Yeah, based on how you explained the problem your car has, it would be covered because it greatly impairs the value of the vehicle with this defect.

Is it creepy that I recognize the street in that video? That is an awfully weird sound. It sounds like an old leaf blower or drive able lawn mower puffing out. Exhaust leak? I had a bad run in with Jackson Acura two years ago. I would rather not talk about it... Really nice location and building, but I had to pull teeth to get my "damage" fixed. Nalley on Cobb Parkway is great! The building definitely needs a redo, and some people may tell you different, but they always treat me well. Make sure they stick a qualified and experienced technician on this. Don't let them stick a one year technician who just does oil changes with no technical training on it. Best of luck. I can't believe someone would tell you that is normal if they listened to the video.

The service writer was able to replicate it, but the tech has not been able to. I'm hoping they figure something out by tomorrow.

Not creepy, funny though And sorry to hear that you also had a bad experience with Jackson, it seams like they do more bad than good! I haven't been to Nalley Acura only driven past it before, but I know most Nalley dealerships are very good. But ill give Jackson another day or so, if they still can't fix it I'm going to demand they have the car towed to a competent Acura dealership

if tech cant replicate it; its not an exhaust leak, or it would be apparent EVERY time you start the car.

also rules out spark plug loose/ejection, as it would be apparent EVERY single time you start it.

it's really bothering me, I want to inspect the car and find out whats wrong.

Stupid question (I'm not a technical car guy), but could this have something to do with cylinders/cylinder deactivation? I ask because he said he was cruising at 70 mph when it happened. Hmm... then again, he said it happened again later, so I don't know.

My guess they probably sent all the info they have to headquarters and waiting to hear back from them what to do. Given how overwhelmed they probably are at headquarters, chances are it will take a while until they get back to them. These days issues with cars involve accountants, lawyers, engineers, project managers, executives... you name it.

FYI... my wife recently bought a new Mini. We asked them to assess her 2006 Civic EX for a trade in, they said $6,200. We drove down the street to Texas Direct Auto and they gave us an offer for $8,200. CarMax offered $8,000. It only has 55K miles. We eventually went to TDA and walked out in 30 minutes with a check for $8,200. We could have sold it for about $1,000 more but just didn't have the motivation.

I think it is the VCM somehow malfunctioning and sending gases out the wrong port... or an ECM malfunction. If the VCM was malfunctioning I wonder if it could damage the valves or cylinder heads?

we know its something mechanical related

Rocketman, you could be on to something!

The ECU could just need to be updated via firmware to fix VCM!

Sounds like a VCM issue. Perhaps an intermittently malfunctioning solenoid?

Enjoy the MDX and let the dealer find the issue and do the right fix. If they can't/don't, you always have options after that.

Best of luck.

Thanks everyone. So as of today my car is still at Acura without a fix. They called and said they can't figure out what's causing it and I could either leave it or come pick it up! They seriously wanted me to pick the car up and just drive it with this problem! Anyway after a conversation with the service department manager, they will be keeping the car until they figure it out!

Check your lemon laws. You might want to start over with a new TLX.

I know that is easy for me to say, but my TLX is working good. Best of luck with whatever you decide.

Patrick, if it was me I'd not pick it up. The time that the dealer has the car is considered downtime and counts towards your lemon law claim. The longer you leave it there the greater the pressure to resolve the issue.

^^^I totally agree with you... Let them keep it as long as they want, don't rush them.

Patrick, don't pick it up unless they tell you they fixed something and it is documented on your repair order. Here is something else to consider.

If you pick up the TLX and they didn't make a "repair attempt" to fix it, because they couldn't duplicate the issue. This is not considered a "repair attempt" under most lemon laws.

So the next time you bring it in for this issue you are back to "repair attempt" #1. This is how the car companies drag this out when people don't know any better.

Hey everyone, sorry for the delay. I've been out of town and quite busy this week, and I didn't have my laptop with me. I picked up the car yesterday, they ended up saying their was an issue with the Active Noise Control unit, they replaced it and they replaced the microphone for the ANC. Hopefully that will fix it!!

I am relieved to hear that it was an audio and not mechanical problem. Happy and quite motoring for now on.

Holy crap. From the sound in your video it seemed like the engine was about to rip through the hood. Glad it was just the ANC!!! :-)

Wonder if we'll hear about your car on the next OnePack video LOL!

Sorry but there is no way this would have caused the car to actually shake. They are just latching onto a known problem and getting the car out the door. Unfortunately I would not be surprised to see this happen again.

I thought it was a sound issue. I guess the shaking was from the bass. I wish I could get my bass to shake.

When you attempt to turn off ANC, it makes a really loud droning sound for 30 seconds or so, but there's not enough woof in the subwoofer to make the car shake if that's what really happened.

I have tried to turn off the ANC but that was a few days before this happened. This was a completely different sound than that subwoofer drone, like I said I thought it was the engine. If anything it was the center fill speaker in the front violently shaking alone with maybe some of the front door speakers. Really sounded like the front of the car though.

Anyway it hasn't happened again, all is going good!!

Now, i have had a similar issue twice. I start the car, and turn the Auto Cliamate on high. Once i started to drive a little, i start to hear a fluttering noise, loud, when i turn the climate control temp down a notch, it stops, and never comes back even thought i put it back on high. It seems to only happen on start up, and initally when i put the fan speed and climate on max. Could it also be ANC?? or Possibly climate control issue?

Darn. I was hoping this thread was dead. The subject line is useless and your issue is different. Maybe let this thread die in peace and start a new one that pertains to your issue?
