Leather scratches easily

anyone else having any issue with drivers side seat scratching on the side. Mine looks terrible and I have no idea what could be causing it. I do not wear jeans with buttons on the back so it's a complete mystery to me. Thought someone else might have had this issue and it could be an issue with the leather in this model? 2015 TLX V6 Advance Package.

I have said the TLX was an attempt to gain back the glory days of the 3G, but it did so with a step back to 3G level quality materials, the leather seats in the 4G as well as dash and door materials IMO was far better. They clearly shaved costs in many places to be able to bring that level of content in at the price points they did. With 9K miles my leather has mor wrinkles (as did my 3G) than any of my cars with many more miles. My 4G at 19K was pristine, my M37S was also pristine at 44K miles.

IMO, the leather quality in the previous generation was better. It felt softer and more supportive. The TLX is kind of hard and could easily be mistaken for leatherette. Actually, it's difficulty to distinguish between the leather and non-leather surfaces, which (I guess) could be good or bad depending on your perspective.

Looks like something that should be covered under warranty.

That's pretty bad actually, looks like it should be something you should press them to warranty. It shouldn't wear out that soon. I drive a lot in mine and mine is nothing like that, just a few minor wrinkles.

Zoiks! It's worse than I imagined for a fairly young car.

BTW, For Acura, the general rule is that any part of the seat that touches you is real leather. Other parts, such as the seat back and bolsters, would be leatherette. I suppose this could vary a bit from model to model and trim level to trim level. Leatherette looks good, is durable, and doesn't crack or scratch easily. Its drawback is that it's not porous so it doesn't breath; thus Acura does not use it for parts that touch you.

Anyway, it doesn't hurt to talk to the dealer. While this isn't normal wear and tear, the dealer could say driver error. Are these scratches only on the driver's seat?

That is in rough shape. I'm not sure if the dealer would cover that. Let us know what the dealer says. I have 16000 kms on my 2016 and it is nowhere near at that state. I do condition my leather seats every 2 months or so.

I'm having the same problem, think a pen in my back pocket scratched that same exact spot. IDK. but it's concerning.

Dealer said Warrenty might cover seat but that I would hate the recover because the blacks don't match and they just turn out terrible. So I'm stuck I suppose unless I pay someone out of pocket to fix. Im at a loss!

Won't match? It's possible but I believe that is just a tactic for you not to claim the warranty. Why not get the new seat in and then tell them to ask for your approval first if it matches to your eyes? There is a possibility that it will be a shade off but no one will notice.

If I understand correctly, they recover it. Not replace the seat. So when the recover is done it's not very pretty. I have a friend that works there that I talked to about it and he advised me not to do it and he would be up front with me. I wish they would remove the whole seat and put in a new one. Maybe I can request that? He thinks the buttons or bling on the back of my jeans has done it? It's possible but I have no jeans with buttons on the back. Seems like it should be more durable than that anyways. Leather wrinkles I expect or could tolerate but this is like a peeling or scratching.

That is the first time I have heard that a faulty seat under warranty would be re-upholstered instead of replacing a new one. Have you tried a different dealership? It seems like it is labour intensive to pull out the seat and send it out to get re-upholstered. It just does not make sense.

I don't think those are from your jeans. A jacket with a lot of bling would have make sense.

I agree with @edmua6. I'd guess scratches from jeans with bling would be lower... and the OP doesn't even have such jeans! Also, replacing the seat seems quicker and easier than having the it re-upholstered.

I found this link on leather repair:
https://www.furnitureclinic.com/How_...On_Leather.php

I've never used this product, so I'm not endorsing it. It's just an alternative I'm tossing into the discussion.
