Door handle unlock malfunctioning at times
Door handle unlock malfunctioning at times
Twice in the last week I've come up my TLX and touched the door handle and it didn't unlock. The second time was in a rainstorm, and I had to go back and duck under cover while I dug my fob out of my pocket.
It unlocks fine with the fob, but that's twice it failed to do so via the door handle. I'm sure I won't be able to get it to do it at the dealership.
Anyone else run into this?

As far as locking goes, ive noticed you have to push the button "correctly". Meaning when I get out and hit it with my left hand at a certain angle it doesnt work, but if i use my right angle and more of "push" it in then it works, maybe thats it?
I had the issue after 2 moths getting the car with left back door handle . It was intermittent up to finally it gave up. They changed the door handle under warranty and so far so good no more issues.

This has only happened to me once or twice since I bought it back in 2014, but mine was inside the garage when it happened. The mechanism can be flaky as I've had to repeatedly grab the handle a few times for it to open.
Actually that seems weird. Maybe it's your FOB or something. I always hit it twice to hear the car "beep" to confirm it's locked.

Thanks. I'll watch it and see how it does. I've had the car for a little over a year, but I don't think the fob battery could be the culprit ... I've never had to replace one before.

You know, I really need to stop responding to these threads. Last time I responded to the "did anyone's puddle light go out?" thread, I responded with "nope, not me! mine's working fine!" and the next day I notice it had gone out when I know a few days before it was working.
Of course I just said my door failed to open by touching the handle only once or twice in the almost 2 years I've owned it. Well, today it happened again while leaving for work. FYI, it was parked in the garage and it's been raining like crazy around here. It was also pretty humid.
I believe the manual or somewhere it's stated that close proximity to the phone may cause this, but just to test this when mine didn't open today, I held it in my opposite hand as far away as I could and even put it down away from the car, but no luck. I had to use the FOB to open the door.

I haven't had my TLX long enough to replace the FOB battery but I've replaced them several times in other cars. I've noticed the range on my remote start is not what it used to be. Probably with the longer range the battery takes a bigger hit each time I use the FOB.

This is true. Sometimes is just does not work.
Happens to me too, sometimes I have to move my hand around in the handle to make the door unlock. Also locking the door with the handle button can be frustrating, multiple tries with no success, I think you have to push firmly and as spoiler900 stated push it at the right angle. However opening the door and closing it again I encountered also makes the button work again. Side note, I believe this has happened on days where it's been raining, not all the time though.
I've experienced this as well. In my case it is always because of my positioning relative to the handle. I believe it is because my key fob is "out of the circle" if I stand facing the car and use my left hand to push the button. If I use my right hand (forcing me to be more centered on the handle) it always works.
Maybe the cellphone is interfering with the FOB??

I have actually stood my door trying to get it to unlock when it was already unlocked. Doh!

As a result, there have been a number of times where I thought I was "in range" and the door still wouldn't unlock. I repositioned myself (and the fob) and it opened right up. The moral of the story is to be square in front of the door if you want it to unlock every time.
