cricket sound?

cricket sound?

Hi guys, not sure when this happened but I just noticed this tonight. I can hear the chirping, cricket sound in my car. I checked under the hood, and the noise seem to be coming out under the air filter box, maybe in the tranny area. Not sure what this is, anyone experiencing this as well?

High pressure fuel injectors, the ticking will mirror the engine speed and is normal for direct injection.

If it's the sound I remember in my RLX, then it's not normal and is due to a known issue that also effects all model year V6 TLXs.

Go over to the TLX service bulletin thread and look for:

TSB 16-008 - High Pressure Fuel Pump Chirps
Applies To: 2015-17 TLX - ALL with V6 - ALL

Does it vary at all with internal fan speed? I had this sound on a previous car and it turned out to be the blower motor for the heater failing. It sounded EXACTLY like a cricket would and judging by where it is coming from, that is possible.

I dont know if that's the sound the the fuel injector. This morning it does not make any noises. It has not making that noise until recently. I'll bring that up next week when I bring in my car...thanks guys.

My TLX SH-AWD makes the chirping sound, but only on summer days (temps 70+ F) and after the car has been running for about 20 minutes. I don't hear it otherwise. At first, I thought it was the timing belt and had the dealer perform TSB 14-025, but it didn't fix the issue.

I assume it's the high pressure fuel pump and will ask for TSB 16-008 to be applied when I go to the dealer in the summer to see if it fixes it.

Mine hasn't happen again since that one night. The tech couldn't replicate it either. I did mentioned to them about the TSB for high pressure fuel pump, but since they can't hear the sound, they wont be doing much.

It seems that my crickets have taken up permanent residence under the hood. Time to talk to the service department/exterminator! LOL
