Acura TLX 2015 Transmition
Acura TLX 2015 Transmition
Hey Guys,
This maybe a redundant question, but I couldn't find an answer. I have 2015 acura tlx v6 fwd advance. It is a nice car, and since buying it at the dealer, the trans has been lets say bad. I got a pdk, so when I hop into the car, it feels like crap. But I have the letter from acura saying the transmission warranty is for 10 years and unlimited miles as they had issues. I have issues when I am at 4k rpms at 2nd and dont change the gas, and the car upshifts and feels like i got hit. It happens with all the gears not counting 7,8,9 which are fine.
How do I go the dealer and explain that my trans is dead, and I want a new one. Because I have gone in multiple times and said the transmission doesn't shift smoothly, compared to the loners they give me. They say we can't recreate it over the phone. What should I do? Take a video? Ask the shop foreman to come and drive with me?
Thanks so much!

If it's something you can readily duplicate, have shop foreman or other service dept personnel go for a ride/drive with you.
That said, hard shifting =/= trans dead, and depending on what's going on with it you may or may not qualify for a new one under the warranty.
*not trying to be a buzzkill!
Hope this helps somehow.

In a nutshell, the transmission has always been wonky. The early models like the 2015's were horrible. Some people have gotten the transmission replaced by Honda, while others, like me, could not get them replaced. There have been numerous patches, attempted fixes, etc. In some cases they work, in some cases they don't. In some cases the fix is temporary. In some cases the replacement of the entire transmission has helped. The results seem to be all over the place.
If they can't duplicate it, and it's that apparent, it's probably because they're tired of dealing with it. lol. Ride in the car with a tech and duplicate it. They may then say "that's normal". If you're lucky, they may replace the transmission. Who knows.
The transmission warranty is is in the event of a failure. This isn't necessarily a failure - it's just a crappy transmission.

1) For problem #1, you need to install a VCM Muzzler. I did this about a month ago, I wish I had done it years ago. I got mine here, there are other places to buy them. https://www.vcmtuner.com/products/vcmtuner A 5 minute install. So in addition to the obvious thing of disabling your variable cylinder management, I think it must somehow be keeping the ECU in a different mode. The VCM doesn't kick in until 40 mph, but my butt dyno feels a difference in throttle response from a standing start. I can't explain it, but it is there. Of course at 40 mph and higher the engine is running more smoothly (even my wife noticed) and the delay you get when pulling into the passing lane is gone. It feels like a different engine. You step on the gas and the car goes, like you'd expect. My highway mileage has gone down from 30-34 mph to about 26-27 mph. Of course I'm driving 80 mph on the Beltway, but I personally don't care. VCM Muzzler is one of the best mods I've ever done to a car period.
2) The thrill inducing delay while in a slow right or left turn I've found is not the transmission, it is the Traction Control. It seems the TC is trying to avoid wheel spin when the car is in a sharp turn at low speed and the driver hits the gas. So it retards the engine to avoid wheel spin. Of course this is not really needed and instead it practically kills you because you can't get out of the way of traffic. There is a turn I make everyday on my way to work. I slow and turn right onto a street where cars are coming at 50+ mph. By disabling my TC it greatly helps this delay. It is not 100% but it is a big improvement. You can turn this off on the lower left panel. But it has to be turned off everytime the car is started. Give it a test.
