KTuner Ordered

Hey Everyone, finally pulled the trigger and ordered KTuner for my 18 TLX. I built up enough points to only pay 50 dollars or it J so I said during these quarantine times I can at least play with this. KTuner said the overall feel is great and I can disable the VCM and also adjust throttle response, now if that’s the case this will be HUGE for all of our V6 TLX. It arrives Friday and I plan on reflashing Saturday. I will keep everyone posted, I guess this KTuner will be passed down to the Type S…whenever it comes out.

Interesting, you should document the process here step by step with photos so noobs like me can hopefully do it on our cars down the road.

I’ll do my first flash and see how it goes then after I will document everything. Hopefully the car runs a lot better and seeing how the Type S may not be out for a while I may have to extend my lease until its out…….or get a M240i :/

There should be an option to disable VSA as well.

Do you have local tuner you go to or the KTuner is pre-loaded with a base tune?

Hey guys, didn’t get a chance to document the steps but I will, its very simple. So this is the base tune that came with them and guess what THERE IS THROTTLE ADJUSTMENT!!!!!! Makes the world of difference all I changed on the base tune was disable VCM and of course throttle response.

My car feels sooooooo light and when I step on the gas it JUMPS to go. Ktuner did a great job on this, I’m sure if I go to a tuner I can get more out of this base tune but for now all I was saying was omfg!!! It really changed the car up I’ll have more to report tomorrow.

So here is my feedback so far after the reflash. Extremely awesome, it pulls hardddd feels like the car lost 1000lbs and it moves. Since I changed the throttle response and reflashed, it knows what to do when you step on the gas and it goes. You know sometimes when your cruising and you step on the gas to move it will stay in the gear sometimes and chug along……after the reflash it will stay in the gear but pull harddddd and step on the gas a little more and boom downshifts and is gone, downshifts are fast and happens 99.9% of the time now to get moving. On the highway anything over 60 is a rocket it launches and keeps pulling hard. Will have another update end of the week or early next. My opinion, worth every penny to transform this car now if I had PCD and test pipe forget it…

That sounds promising. I do recall you already had most of the available bolt on modifications for the TLX?

On my car I have stock intake with 3inch piping down to the fender , light weight racing wheels, light weight crank pulley, and sprint booster. My lease is up September but since the shutdown I will extend it and wait for the type S. If I owned the care I would def run pcd and test pipe.

My brother took it for a spin this morning he came back and was like wtf happened to the car….it needs more road in front of it.

Once this Virus pandemic is over if anyone is in Queens and wants to come take it for a spin you are more than welcome to contact me to try it out.

Really glad you're enjoying it! The tune was developed on our own TLX test vehicle, so it's very smooth and has a lot of testing time into it. The throttle options really add an extra level of life to the vehicle.

I'm really considering pulling the trigger for the ktuner now that i've read your experiences so far with it. Just like you, it will give me something new to learn and mess with now that I have some extra free time!

Never mind i'm not getting the tuner. My motor blew up while I was cruising at 75mph, started making a clicking noise at 2000rpm and by the time I went to pull over, all hell came loose. RIP J35

Maybe I push it too hard. I always have it sport or sport+ because of throttle lag, I also got a sprint booster because of that too. Ive always kept my oil at max and changed it every 5k miles. Gonna talk to carmax today since I have warranty

Thanks kudzu for being the pioneer and the first to document your experience. This actually looks tempting. No exhaust mods and still made a huge difference?

Please, let us know how this plays out over the next few weeks/months. Would love to know if you're throwing codes or other issues over the long run...

Anytime, always glad to give a good review. I have the throttle response to the highest in ktuner and I also have my sprintbooster on but lowered to the green 7 not red and it’s awesome, the red 9 was overkill. I use my car every day and I find that im getting better gas millage. I also removed my vcmuzzler since I don’t need it anymore because of the vcm disable option. Next thing I want to try is to disable TCS. So far so good with this reflash pull harddd and feels light on the highway, the car always knows what you want it to do now before it had a mind of its own as we all know lol. This weekend im changed my pads replacing it with the same EBC reds they are pretty low and I need that extra stopping power again.

Does the Ktune come with a base tune? Tried looking for more information but didn't see any graphs or data.

Great question on the base tune. Not to go too far off topic but I appreciate the commentary about the EBC red pads as well. The TLX feels under-braked compared to the Giulia I returned a few months ago. Thanks to this community it seems we know how to fix that too.

I did this as well, and its pretty nice, I kind of like that overkill of Red 9 with the throttle response haha, but green 9 should be good. Im not sure if I feel the difference of disabling VCM yet...I barely drove it. What am I suppose to feel? Im FBO so that vibrates the car lol

I had the vcmuzzler so I removed it and disabled the vcm with ktuner, this weekend I will do vsa and see how it is. So far running awesome. I also have the 20 RDX and I was the unlock the ktuner and flash that to see how it is butttt the wife is gonna kill me if I do, it’s her jeep. I’ll just try it one day to see how it is and flash it back to stock.

Didn’t get a chance to put on the replacement reds this weekend I actually used the day to compound and polish my car, has a showroom glass finish now. I’m getting some new rotors this weekend and slapping it on.

I noticed my gas mileage is better as well now and I pretty much drive every day.

Which tuner version did you buy and from whom? Website shows only the $649 V2 option available.

With the ability to change throttle response, why do you still need the Sprint Booster? Have you disable the Sprint Booster to experience the change with and without it? Thoughts?

How will your TLX tune work at altitude? Any adjustment for altitude in the tuner program?

Ordered from Amazon took about a week to come with the shipping delays. Without the sprint booster the car feels great, like a normal peppy car and not like before when you step on the gas and hope it goes. Since I have the V3 I went through the adjustments and left it at green 7. I left it on because it because it still adds and extra layer of quickenss to the throttle signal, maybe a half second quicker but without it the car is perfectly fine actually 100 times better than stock any day. Didn’t see any altitude adjustments, it’s just basic tune settings.

Is your unit the Ktuner V1.2 or V2?

My biggest concern is altitude's affect on AF ratio and how a tune created at lower elevation will affect overall performance and fuel economy. Custom tunes aren't cheap. LOL

Will the software allow you to disengage vcm and increase throttle response independent of reflashing from factory to the basic tune?

yup only a custom tune will take care of that. you will have to flash with the base tune to modify those options.

I watched a Youtube vid where someone downloaded Tuner View off the Google Play Store and paired their device through bluetooth to the V1.2 to get the visual display. May be a cheaper solution if you have an old Android phone laying around.

I emailed Ktune on how to check my car's ecu to make sure works (I'm sure it covers all the ecu) but I wanted to be sure. Their response wasn't what I was asking, they told me to check their site to see if its listed. Anyways, what's the easiest way to check?

I'm ready thinking about getting it. They said it's about 10-15hp grain.

The application page for the vehicle in question has a list of supported ECU numbers. Check yours against the list. If you have one that's not on the list KTuner will have to read it in order to add it.
