Here is a copy of the small handout provided with the update to the TLX/MDX system. I assume the feature changes are the same, but this is copied from the MDX handout. I haven't had a chance to see if it feels any 'snappier' but will try later.

Interesting. Is there any reason to think it will be snappier? Generally speaking, operating system updates to an existing computer tend to make them run slower. We're asking the same CPU to display and perform more advanced info, so the tradeoff is slower performance. You should see my 3 year old iPad suffer it's way through the iOS8 upgrade...
When is our first oil change? I just passed the 3,000 mile mark.
I'm at just over 2,000 miles and the MM says I'm at 80%. They want you to wait until you get below 15% for the oil change so I'm guessing I should get close to 8 or 9 thousand miles. I tend to drive more like an old man than a young hot-rod so I might get a few more miles out of my oil than some others.

I'm guessing March/April timeframe for me! I'll wait it out - I'm guessing there will likely be a TSB or two that will need to be taken care of by then too

I agree that all-new operating systems seem to make things slower, but it's hardly the rule. Windows 7 runs better than later versions of XP on the same machine. And yes, iOS8 is slower than iOS7 on an iPad 3 (I have one) but later versions of iOS7 ran better than early ones. Also, iOS 8.1 runs better than iOS 8.0.2. Since the TLX's not an all new OS, there could be optimizations for improved performance in the code if they focused on this. One can hope anyway...

I'm not sure that is necessarily true. Sometimes when they update the code they also take time to make it more efficient. I've seen that happen in many programs I have updated, and have revisited programs I have written to make them quicker.

Colin,
Do you know if the artist/track info on the ODMD screen will be avialble on the RLX as a software update?

These are great improvements (if they work) and they address a few of my WTF's as I wade through the NAV and Audio "features". More important though to me is it shows someone is listening! Thanks again Colin.
Good God, I just noticed that they're putting stuff like "repeat" on the main screen instead of buried in a sub-menu. Better yet, give me my dang old school buttons back!
Also, thank you for allowing the guidance volume to be adjusted using the scroll-wheel.
Lots of good changes here. Now about those AC controls ... why do I have to be presented with a menu button when toggling between "recirculate" and "fresh"? Why not just toggle to the other one instead of presenting me with another window to choose? Same thing with things like the seat fan and whatnot.
So, are we saying you can now literally say an entire street address in one uninterrupted "string" (like, "1234 Oak Street, Des Moines, Iowa")?
Instead of broken up into city, street, number, etc.?
Dang, if that's true, I wish my RLX would do that!

Using Voice Command (English only)
You can say the entire address at once using voice
commands. Say “Address” on the Voice Portal
screen, then say the entire address. For example, “1-
2-3-4 Main Street, Los Angeles, California.” The
system interprets the address. Say “Set as
destination” to begin the route.
The system language needs to be set in English.
I called and scheduled my appointment to have this done. Even though I have seen from others this only takes about 90 minutes, they want the car for the whole day...
I don't fully understand why Acura makes this so difficult. With my Ford I was able to go to the owners site, format a USB stick, install the update to the stick, and put that in my car.
I fully understand not doing it OTA through Acura-Link, its too slow. However forcing me to take the car to the dealership and leave it there is quite an inconvenience...
Expect to leave the car there for at least a few hours. The updates also allow additional presets for phone and radio stations. I am not so sure that it's snappier, unless my update has an issue.

To be fair, the update is hardly required. You could always do it when the car is in for the next scheduled service. As for why they don't let users update themselves? Maybe they want more control over the head units borne of a culture of secrecy? Maybe they decided long ago that they don't want the warranty issues that 'could' come if it were more open. Honda/Acura have had a lot of experience with 'modders' and maybe they don't want to open that door again?
So the dealer gives me a call to bring my car in for service. They said that they would be running a software update for my NAV and ODMD. After a full day at the shop, I finally get a call from the service manager. My VIN is one of the cars which requires the transmission inspection (which I was aware about), and because of this, their computer will not allow my car to run the software updates until the inspection has been completed. My dealer isn't yet set up to do these transmission inspections, so end of the line nothing was done.
Moral of this story, if the dealer calls you, just make sure they are prepared to service the transmission first or you will have wasted your time.
I hope the Navi is improved as the Navi on our 2013 ILX is the worst interface ever.
The one shot voice entry for the full address would be great if it works!
That is very strange, my car is part of the transmission recal, they were able to do the update to my system . Maybe an overlap, so far I have not been called to come in for the transmission fix.
Has anyone with a Canadian TLX received the update? I just picked up my car this week and it has the old navi software version - dealer says no update available for my car.
When I log onto the Acura Canada owners site, I see two versions of the owners manual: one with and one without software update... Makes me wonder if my dealer is right about no updates being available...
