Nav reboots spontaneously
Nav reboots spontaneously
Before I take the car back to the dealer for the umpteenth time, was wondering if anyone has seen this issue or knows any potential causes.
When the car is started, the navigation and audio system boots normally. At some point soon afterwards, typically 5-15 minutes, the navigation screen goes black and then the Acuralink splash screen comes up and the disclaimer follows, and it appears to have rebooted. The audio system is unaffected.
I looked in the navigation manual and in the troublshooting section it indicates that reboot doesn't necessarily indicate an issue, but this happens just about every time I drive the vehicle.
Anyone have this happen or heard of this issue?

I think that has happened once for me, but just once. Occasionally it might happen if it needs to reboot itself, but it should be like a 1 time per year thing max, not every time your car starts, thats a definite problem. Try a software update maybe from your dealer. Good luck
Never had that happen on mine. It is a problem that should be fixed, either software update or replacement of the hardware. The difficulty may be demonstrating it to the tech, but if it happens every time you drive then that should not be a problem.
Just another defect in the parade of unreliability that has been my TLX purchase. I will never, ever, never, never, ever buy another Acura. So done with this piece of crap.
I had the same thing happen to me last night on my way home from work, was listening to Pandora and it happened 4 times, so switched over to FM and it happened one more time. Finally got a message on my Iphone saying Pandora was having trouble connecting to an accessory. I unplugged the phone and it didn't happen again. I did plug the phone back in to charge it, but it didn't repeat itself. Should I be worried?
This started happening randomly last week. I noticed it only happens when I have my Iphone 6s plus plugged in the USB port and I am listening to Pandora. It freaks out and reboots. The moment I take it off of pandora or unplug the phone and use Pandora normally it works with no problem. Not sure if I'm going to take it now or just wait til I have an oil change appointment.

In my case, it appears to have been solved by replacing the nav unit, which resulted in a short that blows fuses for the center console backlighting for the controls below the touchscreen.
This car has been a comedy of defects and dealer errors. I've owned it for 3.5 months and it's been at the dealer for almost 6 weeks of that time.
As I posted in the "would you recommend a TLX" thread, I have an intense "buyer's remorse" and will never, ever buy another Acura. The combination of the unreliability of the vehicle and keystone cops routine from the dealership makes the Acura ownership experience beyond aggravating and frustrating.

This is an issue caused by either a Pandora update or iOS update. I just tried to use my iPhone 6s with Pandora and my nav also rebooted twice. By his was never an issue before. As Acura doesn't update vehicles over the air, this is the only explanation.
After the nav swap, the backlighting blew a fuse and they have been unable to fix after an additional week at the dealer. I am now awaiting a buyback and will finally be rid of this shit for good. I had thought about a 2016, but I think I will take this opportunity for a "do over" and steer clear of Acura.
The Acura tech support made them reproduce without a phone connected as a prerequisite to approving replacement.
Thanks Neil. I'll keep an eye on it without running Pandora, perhaps umpiring the phone for a bit. I find it interesting though that I didn't have this issue until I accessed Pandora today and tried to skip a song. Hooked up via USB.
I hadn't tried Pandora since reading your initial post. I believe it's still possible that something in either the Pandora software or iOS corrupted the NAV software.
Strange huh?

As mentioned, I'm working with the dealer's GM and my case worker at ACR to get a buyback approved. I have more than enough based on the lemon law in my state, and I truly think they realize this car is just possessed by demons.
Guys,
I tried to uninstall and reinstall and it still crashes.
I contacted Pandora support and they confirmed this is an issue on their side and engineers are working on the problem. They asked for my iphone version number which is 9.2.1 (13D15).
No ETA on a fix.

Update:
Pandora pushed out an update yesterday. Good news and bad news.
via USB....Nav will not crash, however, only 2 channels load and will only switch between the 2.
via Bluetooth, all channels will load and work correctly.
I am going to contact Pandora support again.

I assume by 'channels' you mean 'Pandora radio stations'?
I have not tried selecting every one of my 15 stations but have used 2 or 3 successfully. I had the same problems as you described earlier until the revised IOS Pandora app was released on Mar 23.

Keep us posted on whether you are successful in getting out of your TLX. What is your shopping list?

Thanks.
I have found the most current Pandora app works correctly in my '15 TLX on the USB connection. I did have the reboot problem in early March but it was corrected by an update to the Pandora app in mid-March. I am using an iPhone 6 with the latest IOS. I have 18 Pandora stations and have successfully selected 3 or 4 of them recently.

Yes, I can confirm that the steering wheel controls selecting stations has an odd behavior. If I am on station A and hold the selector wheel to the right - station B is selected. If I hold the selector wheel again to the right, station A is selected. If I hold the selector wheel to the right again, I get station C. It's like it takes 2 holds of the selector to get to the next station. Not quite the described action in the manual.
I don't use the steering wheel controls much to change stations (I use the "audio" upper screen and dial for station selection).

I can further report that selecting Pandora radio stations with steering selector wheel control works normally when playing Pandora through the Bluetooth connection (USB not connected). Holding the left selector wheel moves through my station list one entry at a time.
