Menu access in Android Auto

I'm having my first experience with Android Auto in my 2018 TLX. I hooked up my Galaxy S7 edge with no problem. I can launch apps and get around ok, except for the menus in the upper right corner of Google Maps and Waze. Rotating the interface dial never selects the menu icon. If I push the dial up, it goes to the search input and the only way out is to press the back button. Has anyone figured out how to get into that menu? Some kind of long-press on the dial maybe? I've googled and looked at the manual and can't find an answer.

I think it's pushing the circular knob to the left gets you into that menu. Also, if you open Android Auto without it being connected to the car, there are even more options from that hamburger menu.
