is there a way to turn off the lower display and activate it when you touch it etc?
or can you change it to different screen?

You might be able to adjust the brightness of that On Demand (lower) screen, then disable the connection between that setting and the instrument brightness setting. Awkward but might work:
setting under Display: Sync Display Brightness: Selects whether the screen brightness synchronizes with the instruments panel brightness.
