Has anyone attempted a Fog Light install on their own ? If so how bad was it ?
They can be had online for $487.20, my Dealer wants $1020 to purchase and install....
Is it really a $500+ installation ?
at the $60/hour rate that's roughly 8.5 hours or half that if you put two guys on it. the rate is standard and 4 hours sounds about right so i wouldn't call it a highway robbery. you'd get a loaner too.
having said that it does look like a pretty straight forward work to me but that's only because i've tried it with my mustang from a previous life. it's up to you on whether you're willing to take the challenge.
a good compromise might be buying the part for a good deal and checking with the dealer whether they'll do the install with your parts (i doubt there will be any issues really). in a right time you might save $200 you can just write it off as discounted labor if your mind.
I love the looks of the foglights that were part of my trim level, but if they weren't I wouldn't pay that much for them. I've looked at the install too, and it looks straightforward, but it seems very labor intensive and the potential for damage to the front end or the fasteners seems very high. I might look for alternatives, not a preferred method, but a less expensive one, and try to do the mod without removing the entire front of the car.
But I do agree, if you decide to go with the LED Acura lights, I'd have the dealer do it so it's covered under warranty and they have probably done 1 or 2 so the chance of damage is less likely (and covered even if it is).
I just did mine over the weekend and it wasnt bad. I suggest u have someone help u just to b on the safe side. The instruction was real easy...the only hard part was puttin back the lower air box

Not really at all...just jack up the front of the car and put it on jackstands. It will be easy. The instructions look hard but when u really work on it it will b easy
The fog lights look very nice, however I wish they had made them square to match the head lights. The installation it's not bad if you are good with tools. I'm debating if I want to spend $500.00 on fogs, I just order some LED running lights in stead.
How stupid for Acura to make foglights only available as standard equipment on the V-6 Advance. For all other TLX models, it's a $675 option. Add another $350-450 for installation, and you are talking about $ 1000+ for a feature that was standard equipment on all TL and TSX trimlines.
Also, the installation is a total PIA. It requires to you drop the front bumper, do a complex rewire, and replace the turn signal indicator stalk. At least Acura could have made it simpler by making the foglight control a switch using the empty switchblank on the lower left of the dash.
Here's hoping Acura will make foglights standard in a MM update.

The fog lights are $480 through most online dealers. If you buy them online and can install them yourself, you save over half of what it costs to have the dealer do it. I'll agree that $500 for a fog light kit is BS and these should have been standard, but Acura seems to be moving away from that (check the RDX / MDX).
Define "complex rewire"? It's 100% plug-and-play! The turn signal stalk takes 15 minutes to install, tops, and the whole job took me 2.5 hours. There's nothing difficult about it, it's just time consuming. Hell it requires like 3 tools to do the entire install!
For anyone doing this install, be sure to buy some Laminex for the lenses - would suck to have a rock break one.
Retail price for the fog lights is $675, and yes you can get them online for less and install them yourself. The downside is that if the dealer doesn't install, they are covered by just a one-year warranty not the 4 year/50k wrap warranty.
My bigger point is that to get the foglights and the spare tire kit purchased and installed (both standard on my 2011 TSX), would cost $1530 according to my dealer quote.
Yes, both items are not critical for many drivers, but they are to me. To add them to the I4 Tech represents about 4.2 percent to the MSRP. Doesn't sound like a lot, but it basically wipes out the factory to dealer rebate ($750) and dealer holdback ($710) you would otherwise enjoy.
I guess something has to go to pay for all the advanced electronics...
+1 on the Laminex. Never had a cracked foglight in seven years and two TSXs.
Wow, I just was going to make a call about how much labor on these would be. It seems, just to the naked eye, that they would have to replace the black bumper trim since it doesn't seem to come with a cutout on the 2.4. I dunno, for close to a $1000 installed I think I'll just be happy with the otherwise awesome Jewel Eye LED headlights!
Well, as it turns out, being an employee of the dealership network paid off. My cost (cost +10%) on the fogs were around $450 and they charged me $145 to install them.
