Windshield Sunshade recommendations?

The sunshade from my prior car is a little short for the TLX.

Has anyone tried a windshield sunshade that they would recommend?

Thanks

I'm using the Acura shade made for the TLX and the coverage is spot on.

Get a Covercraft.

Can be expensive at around $40-50, but it will easily last the life of the car.

I just ordered a Covercraft accordion fold-up from JC Whitney, $50 and free shipping if you use ground.

I like this one.

Amazon.com: SKORCH Car Window Shade For Small and Medium Size Car Windshield. 1 Piece, Pop Up Design Car Sunshade. Reflective Silver Nylon Sun Blocker For Front Windscreen. Window Shades For Car. Folds Into Automobile Glove Box or Door Pocket.

A bit less expensive! The fabric lets it fit around the mirror post. It folds away to a circle about a foot in diameter which I stick in the back pouch of the passenger seat. That way I can easily reach it from the drivers seat.

I asked a dealerships parts desk for one, and he looked at me like I had 3 eyes... He said their system didn't show one for the tlx. (this was in canada)...

I've been using sunshades by Heatshield on my last 3 cars including my TLX and they do a great job.

I second the Covercraft UVS100 series. I have one for every car. They fit perfectly since they are custom made and will last a long time with careful use.

I can't remember whether I use these or Weathertech, but whichever it is, they're great.

Thanks for the responses, everyone.

I'm a convert - I also ordered the Covercraft from JCW.

The Heatshield also had great reviews (and less expensive), but I prefer the accordion type folding feature.

Why buy some fancy shade when you can recycle and save yourself some cash? Large Pizza Hut box opened up will do me just fine. I like to keep the greasy side facing inward so as not to smear the glass.

+1 on the Covercraft. It's custom fit and ordered for both my TL and the wife's RDX. Quite happy with the fit and quality.

I couldn't take the smell from the box when it got hot. Sorta kills the atmosphere

I've been using the one I got from Acura back when I had my 11 TSX - it fit on my 13 TL and it now also fits just fine on my 15 TLX.

More than likely going to ditch it altogether and have this done to my front windshield -

Llumar Air 80

From what they are telling me it's 100% clear and legal and eliminates the need for a sun shield.

I think they are overselling their product. It is not 100% clear; it only allows 78% of the light to go through the windshield. And its Total Solar Energy Rejection is 43%, so heat will be getting into your car. It blocks 99% of UV like most tint products.

The 2 primary numbers to know are the Visible Light Transmission % and the Total Solar Energy Rejection %.

Here are the numbers:
AIR 80 BL SR HPR (Clear) 78 43 >99 13 9
The link: http://cdn.llumar.com/drupal/llautos...20140715_0.pdf

Huper Optic Specifications: (Scroll down to "Ceramic Series")
Huper Optics Specs Link (next to CERAMIC SERIES, click "See More" for the specs)

3M Specs: CM = Ceramic Series (CM30, CM40, etc.) and CR = Crystalline Series (i.e. CR90, etc.)
3M Specs Link

The 3m cyrstalline 90 lets 86% of the light through (more than Llumar 80) and rejects less heat (TSER=34%).

I am not recommending a product (I didn't do anything to my windshield except order a sunshade), I am just providing the objective data from the manufactures that I used in making my decision. I am not aware of data available for the sunshade products, but they will be eliminating the UV and some heat. Hope this helps.

Hmmm OK, I may need to rethink that then...sticking with the sunshade for now -

I think the sunshade would be totally adequate when your car is parked and the shade is installed. If you don't tint the windshield, then you will be picking up visible light and heat on the dashboard when you are driving.

I wonder if you put the the clearest of tint on the windshield to protect the dash while you are driving, and put up the sunshade when you park, would the sunshade behind the tint provide additional protection beyond the clearest tint? It seems like that would work, hmmm. Ideas or info?

For my previous car, a 2002 TL-S, I was able to order an OEM rear retractable sunshade that was only available via import from Japan (for the Honda equivalent there). Mounting points were already in the car, hidden under the back dash and headlining, and the fit/finish was perfect. It's one of the things I miss most now that I've sold it. I wonder if there is an equivalent for the TLX?

Update: the order is still in "processing" status at JCW. I had a "online chat" with them today, and this is what I found out:

It shows that the part that you ordered is a made–to-order item. The part will undergo production stage first to ensure that it will fit your vehicle. CoverCraft products are made out of imported materials. At this point, the part is still in production stage. According to the manufacturer, the part is estimated to ship on June 18, 2015.

We will send you the tracking email once the part gets shipped.
I hope they beat that, but we'll see. I posted this since a couple of others also ordered.

Yeah, I noticed that even on the Covercraft website, shipping was expected somewhere around 22 June. And on the JCW site, I think they said availability could be a couple of weeks.

They probably manufacture in batches for different models. Hopefully, worth the wait.

I am using the Covercraft one I still had lying around for the 4G. It fits pretty good, not perfect but does the job in the meantime

I checked, it is the Heatshield. They are custom fit to your car and I have been using them for 15 years or so. They are excellent.

Decisions, decisions!!! I will probably go with the Acura OEM version, but I'll wait a bit to hear the reviews from you all first.

Update: Received e-mail from JCW stating the Covercraft sunshade was shipped today via Fedex - they provided a tracking number. Looks like they produced it a little ahead of the forecast date.

Any of you compared the Acura OEM vs. the Covercraft ones? At least from the pics, the OEM version looks similar to the stuff Covercraft makes.

Received my Covercraft shield from JCW yesterday. It fits perfectly, appears well made, and should be relatively easy to store. Tried it today in 90 deg heat while I was playing golf. Seems to do everything as advertised.

Pleased so far.

It makes a huge difference in my car. Before I got the screen, I'd start my car remotely and it is would still be hot when I go to it because all of the surfaces were hot.. DAMN hot steering wheel is hard to drive with!

Now, just warm, not hot. Love it

I am glad I got my Covercraft Accordian last week and used it this week.

Fits very nice and keeps the car cool with the 94°F Heat.

I got mine a week ahead of schedule, on 6/10. With tropical storm bill passing through, I didn't need it for a while. I've been using it lately, I like it. The fit is very nice. It leaves about 1" at the top and on one side, which you need to easily get it in place IMO. It looks like durable construction, high quality.

After 1.5 hours outside for lunch, temp of 90, car was warm, that's it. It cools down quickly, which is nice in Houston. I have Huper Optic ceramic 30 on my windows.

After 3.5 hours sitting out at the golf course, temp 90 - 93, car was hot, but not burning up. It cooled off pretty quick. I'm very happy with this buy. If I didn't expect to keep the car more than 4 years, I would consider the roll up model since they are less expensive. But this accordian model fits nicely in the passenger side between the seat and the console, right where I can get it easily, even with my wife in the car.
