Turnig radius???

Why does a 2015 Acura MDX have a better turning radius than a 2015 TLX with PAWS?????

MDX - 37.6 ft
TLX w/PAWS 39.2 ft.

Seriously - it's not a big deal but I thought PAWS was supposed to be a benefit.

WTH????

Where did you get your data? Anyhow turning ratio on the TLX is nothing stellar. You can blame the advanced suspensions, front wheel dynamics, etc etc but bottom line is that it's not that much worse than the competitors and nobody expected it to be either. if turning radius is important consider RWDs cuz those just drive sideways...

According to this 2015 Acura TLX | Specifications | Acura.com under the Chassis tab:
I4 is 39.2
V6 is 38.8
SH-AWD is 39.5

I would have assumes that the I4 and V6 would have been the same.

Yeah, I have wondered the same. I snicker when I read reviews that say PAWS helps with parking lot maneuverability. I really feel this PAWS thing is a bit of a gimmick.

Straight off the Acura site.

For parking lot maneuverability I agree - it's marketing hoo-ha.

Of course there's no way to gauge how effective it is on the twisties.

I have not driven a 4G TL or a TSX, but the P-AWS improves the turning radius and parking lot maneuverability over the 3G TL.

lol. I posted this in another thread, but the turning radius is similar to many "regular cab" and "crew cab" pickup trucks. Oddly enough, I feel a tighter turn when parking .... well, tighter than my 3G. I remember when I got my 3G after selling my Maxima, the first thing I noticed was how wide the turning radius was on the 3G.

If it makes you feel better, Honda/Acura has long had crappy turning radii on their sedans. My 3G TL's was terrible.

Don't SUV's usually have better turning radii? There's more room to accomodate wider wheel angles.

As long as Honda/Acura insists on using transverse mounted engines, the turning circle is going to blow. It always has.

Ah - so it would be even *worse* without the PAWS!

For the record - I'm not really complaining here - I have never once thought "damn - if only this car had a better turning radius" - it was more a curiosity for me.

This is exactly why. SUVs and trucks have more room under their front fenders to accommodate a wider wheel turning angle. I remember my old Honda Pilot also had a better turning radius, which can be compared to the MDX.
My 3G TL type-s was terrible with a very wide turning radius. On some narrow streets, I could not even make a U-turn without backing up or driving onto the curb. I feel the TLX is slightly better with the P-Paw.

I also am comparing to a 3G TL Type S and the TLX SH-AWD is a noticeable improvement. However, I have to say I was pleasantly shocked at the turning radius of our 2014 MDX Tech, it rivals that of my 97 4Runner Limited (an awesome truck btw, had it for 17 years) which turned on a dime.

I have had a few near crashes making U-turns in my 2G TL-S (Turning Radius: 39.7 ft, source: 2003 Acura 3.2 TL and Type-S Specifications - Honda.com). On a 4-lane divided highway with a left turn lane - I've needed to reverse to make the U-turn without hitting the curb - person behind me who was also making a U-turn had to slam on the brakes because they didn't think I'd be reversing!

The TLX is not much better, so definitely be careful.

It is kind of surprising the PAWS doesn't help more with the turning radius, I thought it would - based on other cars with rear steer.

Just as an example, check out this article - Tight Turning Circle - 2013 Lexus GS 350 Long-Term Road Test

Edmunds tested the GS's turning radius with rear steer at 33.5 ft, down from 36.8 feet (Lexus specs) without rear steer.

Realize this is not a make or break kind of spec - but it'd be nice if it were improved.
