TLX vs. E350
TLX vs. E350
Hi all. I just bought a new TLX V6 tech fwd and thought I would join this forum to learn and discuss my thoughts and experiences driving this great car.
I went with the graphite/graystone and while the car looks good in all the colors, the graphite metallic just really appeals to me.
I was driving an 09 MB E350 and after test driving the TLX, I was very impressed. The TLX rides almost as smooth as the benz, the difference in weight making the benz feel a bit smoother over some rougher roads but I think the TLX is quieter as far as road/tire noise. Wind noise was the same, nil. The TLX motor seems smoother than the MB 3.5V6. The benz 7 speed in comfort mode shifts a bit smoother than the 9 speed but with the benz 7 speed in sport, the shifts are very similar. I think the 9 speed shifts quicker as well when using the paddles. Also I'd say benz has more throttle hesitation due to the electronic nannys. The TLX seems like a quicker, more agile car as well which makes sense since it's lighter and has 22 more hp. plus the P-aws system.
As far as sound systems, I much prefer the TLX ELS system. The MB harmon kardon has more bass punch but the ELS has a clearer/crisper mid and high range and better separation. The voices sound noticeably clearer with the ELS system.
I had an 08 TL for a while and liked that car except for the road noise which I felt was annoying so I traded it on the Benz. Liked the Benz but it had a panorama roof that liked to creak plus I wasn't real impressed with the stereo, navigation or voice recognition. So when the TLX came out I had to check it out and I'm glad I did. This car is a keeper.
I know the E350 is not really a sport sedan and not a TLX competitor but thought you might want to here how I think it compared.

The newer E350s are very nice cars and in a different category but the TLX feels very refined and solid.
Also I feel the TLX blows the 2014 C class away. The '14 c class has a lot of road noise on rougher interstate and the stereo isn't even close to the ELS system. I don't know about the '15 C class as I haven't drove one.
