Until Acura actually officially releases they are not producing a manual for this iteration of the TL, how are you all coming to the conclusion that it is dead? Because it wasn't mentioned today?

It'll never happen, but they should make a Type S, with a highstrung V8 (think 2 F22C's combined), DSG or 6mt, and AWD.
It is a shame that mt isn't even an option on many "sports" sedans anymore...the public has become lazy and enthusiasts end up paying...

Well, pretty much. They clearly stated the powertrain options. They listed the transmissions they'll be using for each engine. I suppose they could add to it. But based on the Honda counterparts, if they do it will probably only be for the 4-banger anyway (similar to the Accord - no manual for the V6). I doubt they'll even do that.

This.
Hopefully they keep pricing in line with the current TL. Given that they are also replacing the TSX with it, I can't imagine the price would spike much. Fingers crossed for $45K fully loaded MSRP that I can get for $30-$35k after a year or two.

I like it... I actually like it. I never really had high hopes for it as i figured it would follow in the footsteps of the 4g so I was presently surprised when looking through the photos. I'm glad they got away from 4g look, this TLX ain't half bad. One thing I dont like is how the exhaust is sort of integrated behind the bumper.

Hopefully there are more details to come about it. I like the way the car looks up until the backend since it looks more like a TSX/ILX and less like the 3G or 4G TL.
Here's hoping there might be a return of the Type-S with the race car also being unveiled at the show.
I assume that the car will hit show rooms in late 2014 then?

The race vehicle they showed is going to race in the GT division, not be a production car, at least not yet.
Look at the front bumper, that already looks a bit like the Type S Aspec lip kit.
I am nearly 40 and will probably be in the market within the next 2 years and will be shopping for a MT still. Buick and Cadillac are both offering MT in their new offerings.
Not a huge fan of the Chrome bling, but a huge fan of what Cadillac and Buick have done in the past couple years....not so much with Acura.

See the only Cadillac that appeals to me is the CTS-V, that is a race car, but I would want an auto.
Presenter said it is a twin turbo V6.
I'm 30 with the coin to drop on that. The problem is acura has become so watered down. Starting with the demise of the integra then the nsx. They stayed relevant with the tl and tsx but killed both and ruined the design of the tl in 09. I've heavily modded and also daily driven about 17 different honda acura vehicles over the last 15 years. The brand isn't the same. No coupes no manual trans anymore.
This car from the rear reminds me of the lexus is. The side profile rounded bubble top is unappealing. The headlights remind me of the hideous acura rl. Acura isn't shaking things up anymore.
Meanwhile, Lexus is blending performance and aggressive styling with more conservative models. Nissan infiniti offers dedicated sports cars. Toyota debuted the ft-1. Acura won't have anything until the nsx reappears and the general public will not be able to afford it.

O.M.G! During the year of 2009 to 2013, Acura models weren't that appealing and was somewhat fugly. But now...this is the best looking Acura so far. Once my 06 TL is at the end of its life, TLX here I come!

I am actually more concerned about how well the LEDs will age. What happens to these cars in 5-10 years when the LEDs have aged out and are no longer nearly as bright. Or what happens when one fails? It is one thing to have an LED out on your taillight (which BTW can fail MO safety inspection for a single LED out in any taillight), but to have an LED out on your headlights. With HIDs, you just replace the bulb/ballast and call it good for another 5-10 years.

As for my take on the TLX, I love it! Like most others, I was thinking it would be another downer, but I'm pretty impressed. It seems like they've taken some cues from the 3G TL...I see it in the headlights, the grill, the front and rear bumper, and they made the length a bit shorter. Quite a departure from the 4G before the refresh... that thing was hideous.

That's good to know about the LED lifespan. I'm guessing it will be a long time before we need to think about that.
One thought I had - the RLX has 10 jewels per side, albeit only 5 light sources per side, which are reflected and split to fill the 10 jewels. Is there downside to the TLX having just the 5 total per side?

it's times like these that I'm grateful to be able to buy manual transmission cars on the used market for the next 15 years. I feel bad for my children who will never know the joy of driving a modern car of their era with a manual trans, because they will be phased out.
Acura was one of the last brands to carry manuals - obviously there isn't a 100% guarantee that it isn't an option on the TLX, however, even looking at the 4g, you had to special order the manual version. And it was only produced at certain times of the year. I remember people on this very forum waiting upwards of 9 freaking months to get a manual TL brand new off the lot.
and people think it's at all likely they will even offer a manual? Yeah. Doubtful, lol.
At first glance, the car looks far more acceptable to me than 4g. That's where the positive ends and my skepticism begins.
Looking at what we know - the 4 cylinder model will probably be insultingly slow and not becoming of a luxury sport sedan. Honda doesn't really have a grip on turbo technology in their cars. They just seem dead set on staying naturally aspirated in the face of all odds against them with all competitors going turbo with the exception of Infiniti, who has a torque engine to make up for lack of turbo it in the first place. RDX? Big whoop.
PAWS? Really? That's a gimmick because the main benefit is reduced understeer but who is going to be cornering that hard in a car that has no real signs of performance? There is no Hype-S model, there is no advertised manual/limited slip, and all of us have seen Acura shift their target demographic over the past 5 years. So who really needs PAWS? That's wasted money.
I'm 30 and have 2 kids that my wife carts around in our Honda Pilot. I don't need a toned down sedan for myself, as such. I've never outgrown my love of performance in cars, and the 3G was just such a nice balance of pep and fit/finish with reliability of Honda, I could have a weekend sports car, but also have a car like 3G TL that was fun to drive every day. I have no need for a mild-mannered sedan like a Buick. I loved the angle that the 3G TL took on the market and I wish Acura had pursued that further. But they shifted their demographic.
Way of the world I guess.
I will be replacing my TL with an S5, methinks.

So I guess for the TLX, all of the jewels are used both in the daytime and at night, with the DRL simply being a low-power version of the headlight. If there really is only 5 light sources in the RLX and not 10, then there aren't any downsides, because both the TLX and the RLX headlights will get the same amount of usage, in terms of DRL and headlight modes.
I didn't think I'd like the Jewel Eye look, but it looks really nice on the TLX. But I still think I would have preferred an LED behind a projector, like the one on the Infiniti Q50.

I was browsing the RLX on Acura.com to see what kind of fun interior enhancements we might get in the TLX, and I watched the video about the jewel eyes. There is actually an interactive manual where you can click the different light options (low beam, DRL, high beam) to see how they light up. The most inner jewels are high beam only, and the outer 4 are DRL/low beam, with DRL simply having a lower output. That is also where I saw about the 5 light sources split into 10 jewels.
Interestingly, it has a little blurb about 6500k being the most pleasing color or something like that...I wouldn't think thats actually the temp they would use, but maybe it is.
Side note... that interior and power specs will be ready at the Chicago auto show next month!

I have a feeling those led headlights will be 6500k because if you look at the prius, RLX and other cars with LED headlights you will notice the output is very purplish... I have 5k Morimoto and was next to a RLX and was surprised to see how purple the light output looked. same for the prius.
and people the gt car has a 3.5L twin turbo and he even mentioned something about that motor being available in the production model in the future. watch the video and listen closely.
I was looking forward to seeing a turbo 2.4L and turbo small v6.... prior to the press conference I was assuming base model would have ~250hp and the fully loaded close to ~350hp

Definitely a step in the right direction! I don't recall hearing anything about a turbo I-4 but did hear the performance will be good for the small engine. He did talk about good power/weight ratios though.
I could see that 240HP I-4 (S2K had that 10 years ago) with a 3400lb curb weight having reasonable performance for a base model- that would be 14.2lb/hp. Our 3g base autos have about 13.88 lb/hp. You couple that with an 8-speed base auto and you should get 3G like performance. CNet said the I-4 would also have an AWD option but I'm skeptical on that one.

I can't wait to see the interior. As far as the headlights being 6500k, I can believe that, judging from what I've seen out there so far. The beam has a much frostier feeling to it compared to xenons, but with the slightest hint of purple.
#229
I love the new TLX design! After the design of the 4th generation TL my hopes were low. I agree with others in regards to the exhaust being exposed maybe it will be on the final model. I also can't wait to see the interior. If the interior is nice I going to park the TLX in my garage. :-)

I'm loving the look of this TLX. Can't wait to take a test drive when it comes out!
On a side note, after reading many posts today on here and on Facebook, am I the only one who sort of feels like there are some people out there who were just waiting to be disappointed by this car? And no matter what Acura did, those people were going to rag on them and say they were going over to Lexus, Infiniti etc. in disgust. I wonder if some of these people ever actually had any intentions of considering the TLX or any other Acura for that matter. Probably a lot of disgruntled Pontiac owners trolling the pages.

When I first joined AZ, one of the first things I did was to go back to the beginning of the 3rd gen threads and read the reviews of the prototype and when it first came out. A lot of people, especially the 2nd Gen owners HATED the 3rd gen. They called it a piece of crap and said Acura had made a HUGE mistake in designing this "boring" and "squared off" looking car. Now look. The 3rd Gen ranks right up there with the Legend as a classic Acura. Give the TLX time if you don't like it immediately. I've a feeling it has a bright future.

the 2.4 will be front wheel drive only with precision all wheel steering (P-AWS) and 8 speed dual clutch auto
the 3.5 will be offered in front wheel drive only with P-AWS or SH-AWD model and will both have a 9 speed auto (they did not mention dual clutch)
The car overall looks good and better than what most of us expected however the real deal breaker for me is powertrain options. I was glad to hear Honda was going to finally have a dct, but let down when the v6 model wasn't mentioned to have it, but rather just a 9 speed auto. it's amazing to see how Honda was late to the game with the 6spd autos and are already jumping and releasing 8 speed DCT w/ torque converter and a 9 speed auto.
previous TL SH-AWD made 305hp out of a 3.7L and like 280 tq.
I really wanted to see a turbo 3.2 or 3.5 something 330-350 hp and a equal amount of torque
think 335i, taurus SHO, Audi s4, Mercedes-Benz c400 (upcoming c class)
but I guess they want to be like Lexus and infiniti and stay with NA v6 motors... the problem is NA can only do so much, and a 3.5L direct injected sounds like it might be a let down. in terms of power but im hoping they will prove me wrong

I like the TLX design. The lines are so much nicer and tidier. And they fixed its hideous rear.
You would think Acura would have killed off the TL after the 4Gs pathetic sales numbers. Check out the annual sales numbers comparing all TL generations. You would have to go back to 1998 (1G) to find sales numbers that low.

I'm not as ecstatic as I wish i wouldve been, but I'm not disgusted either. It's fsure a step up from 4g, but that's not really saying much lol.
It's clearly a new generation for all cars not just acura. All these new cars all look too (literally) rounded out to me (if that makes sense) and a lot of them got the huge but flat front end.

that transition from 2g to 3g for tl wasn't really just for the tl...you can see it in other cars too. (skip over the 4g lol) and this transition from 3g to the tlx...idk bout everybody else but I definitely see the same transition in infiniti lexus mazda and even bimmers and mercedes.

Nothing comes close to the 3G in looks, but Acura has definitely redeemed themselves with the TLX after the hideous 4G. Acuras always have nice interiors, I don't think we'll be disappointed.
My '04 TL has 205K miles on it now, and I'm most likely going to get a TLX this year. I was going to look at Lexus or Infiniti for my next car, but the Acura brand gives you so much for your money, and these cars are so reliable. After 10 years I've only done routine maintenance on my car (still have the original brakes!).
It's going to be hard to say goodbye to my TL, I love this car!

I've taken some time to look at the Photoshops of different colors and the side views of the TLX vs the ILX, RLX, ect. (thanks for the pics). I still have to reserve judgement for when I see one in person (I don't hate it but I don't love it either). It's not 'polarizing' in terms of styling like the 4G was when it was first introduced (where you either loved it or hated it). It's got lines similar to some other cars (that's not a bad thing, just not as visually 'striking'). It's got pretty inoffensive styling and that's what sells cars. From that standpoint, Acura may have a winner. What I foresee price wise is that the 4 cyl. version will probably sell for low-mid $30's, and a fully loaded V6 version selling for the upper $40's (at least initially). North of $50K, the RLX takes over price wise.
As for the interior, I hope they don't have the dual screen nonsense like the RLX and the higher end Accord (but it's likely they will). From what I understand, those systems require some attention while driving and that's a bad thing vs. knowing where your HVAC controls are as buttons and just activating them accordingly. We have too much distracted driving now, and it would be a shame to add to that.

I'm willing to bet one of my testicles that it will have the dual screen setup. Hopefully, it's integrated better than in the RLX.
