PAWS is not the same as SH-AWD, they're two distinct drivetrains.
considering he mentioned the "new" SH-AWD reduces drag, it's probably powered with electric motors. Or could be an improved version of the traditional SHAWD.
With the end of the Infiniti G Line, there really isnt any japanese 6MT luxury sedan unfortunately. Consumers demanded acura follow other lux brands and they did.

I just love this new TLX!!!!
I know that many are car enthusiasts and hoped for a mention of a MT but it seems MTs are becoming much more rare in this segment.
I know that I will buy one for sure in the next 2-3 years. The Graduate program that Acura has is something I will look at compared to competitors since I graduate this year. Whoo!!!

1. Why are they still hiding the exhaust? I couple big pipes out the back would look much better than that pseudo-grill there.
2. That upper grill has got to go, looks dumb since 09.
If they offer a proper DCT with the V6 and SH-AWD, I may be able to look past not having a 6MT, drivetrain wise.
Styling wise, lose the front and rear grills, mild drop and its a big improvement over the 4G. Those headlights still look like a gimmick though, rather have some projectors.

I understand they are not the same thing - do you know which has better driveability, and would you please explain why? The P-AWS's ability to adjust the rear-wheel direction seems like a novel way to increase higher speed handling, but maybe doesn't address oversteer? Is the SH-AWD better for this? Thanks!
SHAWD is what it is, torque vectoring AWD system that allows for "RWD" like performance in some situations.
In terms of "drivability" they're probably both very much driveable.
i've seen jewel eyes in person and i think they're great in terms of look and output. They have a cutoff too. Maybe if they were a little more Audi and had a unique design for each car instead of taking and adding rows.
#167
Agreed, the light output looks very good, but the physical appearance of the headlight leaves much to me desired.

Jewel eye headlights look kinda cool but I highly doubt the output can even match a good set of hid projectors, let alone beat it. I'll reserve my judgment until when I get a chance to compare side by side with my car though.

^Close but they don't. Probably better than stock orientation but once you tweak them...
However, there are a lot more possibilities with this new tech.

I looked at the pics (right now only in the red). I have to see it in other colors and see the interior before I pass full judgement. I'm in the minority here I guess...it has a lot of ILX appearance in it- I'm not a huge fan of the design. Maybe the running gear might sway me, but as for the body of the car, I'm really not feeling it as a worthy upgrade to my 3G TL (even if the TLX is 8 years newer and has all the options we all want).
People may laugh at me, but I'd rather have a 2012+ TL if I wanted another Acura.

The car looks fantastic! I especially like the rear 3 quarter view. The way the wheels are to the edge and the flaring of the fenders reminds me a bit of a BMW. Love it! I see a bit of ILX in it but not enough to offend. Only thing is why no DCT with the V6 SH-AWD? That would have been perfect.
Damn...the wife wanted to upgrade the RDX to an MDX. How can I convince her that I need to upgrade the TLS 6MT first. ;-)

Overall I like it...you younger guys that want an MT, you have to realize that Acura is not targeting your age group...they are trying to sell this car to the 40+ yo crowd. Although they have a track version racing GT class they are not making a street legal track car. Also, most brands now try to have continuity of looks through their line of cars, there are great similarities in all Cadillacs, BMWs and Audis. So the jewel eyes, the beak etc are carried through and there will be similarities to the ILX, RLX, MDX, and RDX. Only thing I can say that I'm not real fond of is the bottom of the ass end...I don't like that chrome there. I think they have a terrific choice of the drivetrains too. When I'm ready to retire my 3G this will most definitely be on the short list of replacement candidates.

Mademoiselle Chanel!!
My sentiments as well. Familiar traits that run through the line up...what's wrong with that? I adore the similarity to the MDX. As far as looking like Lexus in such, pffft whateva! LOL!

With 3g it was love at first sight. Even now when I look at 10 year old design it still takes my vote over TLX. I know we are on Acura forum but as far as looks is it really looking as good as other brands? Firs it was a beak now it is jewels, why there is something that has to spoil it for me.

Hey Graf...pretty obvious from your other posts that you are not an Acura fan any longer. I'm haven't a clue how old you are but younger I would guess...like I said ^ there, I don't think Acura isn't targeting the younger buyers...I'm guessing this car with the V6 is going to be in the $45-$50K range, how many young guys have that much coin to drop on a car? They are looking at older guys that like the chrome bling etc. The Buick, Cadillac crowd if you will.

Well they mentioned the GT TLX was going to have a twin turbo. It would be cool if they made a production GT model of the TLX with that engine and increased sport tuning and a MT for those who "have" to have a MT to survive. I personally gave up that life when I uhmm got older so an automatic is just fine.
But I do like the styling of it, way better than the 4g TL's. Just wish they would have finished the "prototype" and gotten the interior done. really? no interior? A multi billion dollar company cant afford some OT on the books to make some workers get it done on time? And what's this about "we'll talk about numbers at a later date"? How can you debut a car w/ no specs on it?
Sorry but that just reeks of bad management on Acura's part to me. I would have preferred they wait until the ENTIRE car is ready to be seen. Until I see the entire car and specs...i am officially on the fence on this one (good looks or not).

While I'll be reserving final judgement until we have more specifics like power, interior, and price, I will say that I'm impressed with what I see so far, and I can honestly see myself possibly purchasing one down the road. I really like the proportions of the car and this view in particular:
Changes I would like to see would be putting quad exhaust in place of those rear grills and a dual clutch in the 9-speed attached to the V6. But I'm going to assume that the 9-speed is something special - there is no way they would put a performance auto in the 4 banger and a slow-shifter in the high end model.

I hope they don't tone this car down for production. I remember when I first saw the ILX and thought damn, that looks pretty awesome with the fancy wheels, then once they hit the dealers it looked different to me. Hope they leave those wheels on it, and those bad ass side mirrors and stuff. It's been a few hours since the debut, and I still dig it! Nice job Acura!!!

This car from the rear reminds me of the lexus is. The side profile rounded bubble top is unappealing. The headlights remind me of the hideous acura rl. Acura isn't shaking things up anymore.
Meanwhile, Lexus is blending performance and aggressive styling with more conservative models. Nissan infiniti offers dedicated sports cars. Toyota debuted the ft-1. Acura won't have anything until the nsx reappears and the general public will not be able to afford it.

I'm 30 with the club to drop on that. The problem is acura has become so watered down. Starting with the demise of the integra then the nsx. They stayed relevant with the tl and tsx but killed both and ruined the design of the tl in 09. I've heavily modded and also daily driven about 17 different honda acura vehicles over the last 15 years. The brand isn't the same. No coupes no manual trans anymore.

Agreed - I do like the looks of the new Lexus models inside and out. However, the new IS's engines don't do it for me. I'm hoping that when power numbers come out for the TLX, we are all pleasantly surprised. Obviously we won't be outdoing the RLX sport hybrid, but I hope we at least approach it.

Acura is not going to offer a MT. Nearly all manufacturers are walking away from MT's. My friend who works for Acura told me today the only difference between the prototype and actual model with be the wheels and mirrors. I can only imagine how nice this car with be with a 9 speed trans. Sadly I'm not in the market for a new vehicle & when I am won't be able to afford a $45,000/$50,000 car. Ohh well.

Broke my friggin heart. I'm ok with the looks but no manual is a deal killer.
It's good in a way though. Closure is actually a good thing. Allows you to move on. Back to considering other manual options. There's plenty of fish in the sea. It's just sad to know that after driving Honda's for 15 years, I'll be leaving the brand with my next vehicle.

HUGE step up in my opinion from the 4g TL in terms of looks. Definitely will be a contender when I start looking for a new car.
