Remote Start Range

My wife and I are proud new owners of an 2.4 Tech. We are interested in having the remote start added but I'm having trouble finding a solid answer on its range. Overall our dealer knew very little about it aside from brochure text in front of them and actually advised against it.

Anyways, depending on where I look I'm finding anywhere from 300 some feet to 1/2 mile. Can anyone with this feature attest to its true tested range and how well it's worked in some real life situations?

I can reach it within 500 feet with no problem(open space) , but any buildinsg hurt the range a lot.

Have you found yourself able to comfortably use it from inside say a grocery store to the car in the parking lot?

According to Acura's site - up to 1/2 mile. Maybe not through a grocery store though. Nothing works in a grocery store... lol

I found that link as well rickd. Then I found this one. See why I'm so confused? Lol.

To add to the confusion, I even have dealers giving me conflicting accounts of how far it's SUPPOSED to go but none have any actual accounts or experience with its range. Looking forward to some more of the Advance, Canadian Tech, or accessory users to chime in with some real world accounts of its range and use.

Don't know if this helps, but I started my car from at least 100 yards away with several double rows of cars and several cement pillars between myself and my car .

Come to think of it, I ran into this page a while ago too. Confusing. Maybe there are different receivers for the Advance package vs. the accessory kit (since that is the difference in the pages).
I will be picking up my Advance tomorrow. I will test it out and post the results.

Congrats on the new Advance. From what I can read in installation instructions they are the same and surprisingly easy to install. I'm considering doing it myself and having the dealer program the remotes with their HDS. I look forward to what you find with regards to your range. Be sure to try out the Lane Keep Assist as well - crazy cool.

I find it sad that for 500+ installed, manufacturers can't offer remote start systems that rival aftermarket ones. I hope the TLX one proves to live up to its 1/2 mile range. The Avital one I installed on my last work car would routinely go from the back of a Wal-Mart, through the star, and to the far end of the parking lot. Likewise, plenty are offering ones with unlimited range iOS or Android systems.

Yea, I don't get it. Even if you pay for the AcuraLink Connect package, you can only lock/unlock the car.

it's 1/2 mile but that's for open space. so 100ft is reasonable

I tried replying to your PM but it said your box is full...so here's my reply

I really like the remote start, especially the fact that it turns on the AC (I live in HOT South Florida). As far as range, I can only tell you that it's worked fine every time I've tried it which probably hasn't been more than 75-100ft at the most. I haven't had the need to try it from extremely far distances yet.

Thanks for the response. I see now that our mailboxes only hold two messages which was full of two sent messages. I guess others aren't as curious as I - I would have had to tinker with the remote start to test its full potential lol.

I will try from about 1/2 mile away in the parking lot at work. I will have no buildings in the way so it should work.

Sounding pretty good rickd. Thanks for running some tests. I'm going to be pumped if passes the 1/2 mile test. Sorry to hear you park so far away at work, though. That's a long way after a hard days work.

Fyi, the remote start remote is about twice the size of the regular remote overall. I got it, and now that I've realized how huge it is in my pocket, I actually choose to use the regular smaller remote most of the time. I sort of regret spending the money on it.

Range is good though. I'd say it will work from inside the grocery store.

I did the long distance test today and it worked. I actually tried as soon as I got out of the building and it worked. I park on the other side of the building so it was in the way of the signal. Since I didn't have to park in the back of the lot today, it was more like 1000'. I must have been doing something wrong last night...

Sweet! Certainly pushing towards that rumored 1/2 mile range. So much for my dealer saying 300-400' max. Keep me posted if you happen to push the envelope even further.

The older Acura/Honda remotes had a 300-400 feet range. This new one seems altogther different. Not sure what is meant by bigger and smaller remote. canadian ones at least come with the remote buttons built into the fobs (both of them).

Ya, the buttons are built in, but the remote is far larger than the version without remote start buttons. I was given both types with my car, so I can use either. The key unit with the remote start buttons is easily twice the volume of the standard key without remote start, so I choose not to carry it around unless I expect to want remote start (really cold days, etc.).

Based on the realization that I don't like the much larger key, I now sort of regret spending the extra $ on that feature.

Did a test yesterday. I was about 1,750 feet (about a 1/3 of a mile) with not much in between me and my car except for a few trees and I was able to get the green light.
