Performance Driving Experience

Be interesting to see since the $57K high performance TLX thread has gone so long what the actual interest/experience in competitive driving is. its open choice so you can select more than one answer

Theres a lot of stuff on that list I strive to do, but alas, all I have done is spectated couple of races at Sears Point and Laguna Seca. (I choose watching top gear before seeing the spectator option)

Unfortunately, Honolulu no longer has a race track. Before it closed, I participated in track days in the S2000 on race rubber. Did 4 years of autox with an MR2 Turbo and later the S2000. At the dealer introduction for the '04 TSX I had a chance to ride in a TSX on street tires at California Speedway, I think the instructor got up to 135ish on the straightaways. Fun.

Great stuff. Think the typical member here getting a ride with an instructor even in their own car would be in permanent Holy S**T mode. The extra 2/10ths that you would have to be in for a death wish to try on the street is breath taking.

Took my grandson to the school at the BMW performance center, using their cars. Told him to drive the wheels off the car as he would not get any chance to do so on the street. He put an M3 off track at a corner in a 360 tail out slide righted the car & kept on running.

The IP who is a drift champ was slapping him on the back the rest of the day. Was really happy for him. Grand daughter will have the abbreviated session when I pick up the 435M-Sport in May. Will send her to the full school as a HS graduation present like her brother.

During my pre-kid days, I completed the Skip Barber one day driving school, attended an Indy Car race, and heavily modified a Jetta GLX suspension for serious handling. Since then, it's been mellower. In particular, I don't have as much lust for massive power, which is largely useless in most of my driving. I care more about agility, chassis dynamics, and steering feel. I still want RWD, but if the TLX delivers the goods for powertrain, efficiency, and overall driving excellence I could see buying it anyway. After 15 years of European cars, Acura reliability has been refreshing to say the least.

There are pictures somewhere of a pretty big spin I had in the S2000 at one of the track days. There is video of the TSX Ride and Drive at California Speedway. Here is a link to the TL Ride and Drive autocross competition.

Back in the early to mid 2000's, they used to hold competitions at the dealer preview events. Granted, the competition was only car salesman, but I managed to set fastest time of the day at the TSX event, and fastest time of the weekend at the RSX event. The link above was fastest time that stood for most of the day, somebody beat me at the very end.

Congrats looking good. Did the off side tire unload, looks like a lot of weight shift left & right in the front.

I've spectated before.. Plan on doing my first track day when I turn 17, and AutoX shortly before that.

Fun poll!

Prior to my TL, I owned a daily Cobb Stage 2 STi for roughly 2 years in Colorado. Ran it for 4 seasons of AutoX (Ice racing was the best!), and counting conservatively - probably 4-5 track days. It was a blast!

I traded her for the great outdoors and a 2004 Toyota 4Runner before my TL. I still miss it!

P.S. Do you think we'll actually see a performance street version? I'm hoping for the best, but saving for my dream 991 Carrera S.

Yes, I believe it will be a hybrid since they have already developed the systems & have cars on the street. This way they know what they have & will be better able to mange the pricing premium over the Advance SHAWD if the elect to keep that in the lineup.

AFAIK they have the RLX hybrid down to 4.8 or so to 60 with a mid 13 second quarter mile time. So a lighter TLX would be a very competitive car.
