No one will want the 2015 TLX
..because of the gear selector. Bet money that Acura will go back to a lever design next year, and throw this horrible idea away.
I dont know how some of you were able to overlook this HORRID design idea. I sat in a TLX when i went to the dealer to test drive a SHAWD TL last week, the car feels nice- but the gear selector RUINS IT ALL. THAT ALONE would be reason not to buy the car. I can deal with the hidden exhaust pipes.. but this push button gear selector is laughable.
Dodge did it semi ok with the wheel on the dash, still not a fan of it, but better than the push buttons somewhere they can be easily pushed by accident.
I love our MDX. If they move to push button and we had to trade in for a new MDX i would not buy it.
No one will want a used 2015 tlx after the 2016 comes out with a standard type lever, the 2015s will be "that first year model mistake".

I've heard nothing about Acura switching back to a lever for 2016 and highly doubt that they will. I think you're making a mountain out of a molehill. Obviously, people don't mind it much considering that the TLX has been selling quite well, even the 6 cylinder model with the "HORRID design" of a push button gear selector.
It's not hard to operate. It's just different from what you're accustomed to. I'm sure after a couple of weeks you wouldn't even notice it. When I got my '12 TL, it took me about 2 to 3 weeks to stop reaching for my keys every time I approached the car. Now I'm spoiled by that keyless feature and find it almost strange to see people still using keys. I think you're overreacting a bit but to each his own.

Acura TLX 2.4 Tech 9-2014
Look I am not a big fan of the push button, and my wife refused the car since it was missing, not a huge deal since I was leaning to the 2.4 model, but talk about making a mountain out of a molehill. I can see getting used to it, but do like having my hand rest on that lever. Still these cries of the car is on fire and sucks and won't sell are so overblown. Buy what you like and move on. If you prefer check out the 2.4 TLX the tranny is better and it is plenty quick plus less expensive, I love mine.

So they finally move into a new/creative direction with SOMETHING and people complain.
In my opinion they need to continue doing things like this so they can stand out.
The gear selector is one thing that I love about the TLX... it's something "different" it gives a high tech feel and a futuristic look. Many people appreciate it.
I'm in yet another loaner vehicle (2015 MDX) because of issues with my infotainment system and I freaking hate the "normal" gear shifter and would never want to go back. It feels boring and last gen.

I agree about the complainers. You cannot please everybody no matter how many options you provide.

Idiotic and baseless OP. If people don't want used '15 TLX' it won't be for the gear selector. I happen to like it, others who see the car think it's intriguing, and there's control logic involved that won't let you do dumb stuff with the buttons any more than a lever, actually it's probably safer because of that. For example reverse is recessed and it's a pull (not a push), it can only be engaged on purpose and I'd be willing to be there's an electronic lockout at certain speeds.

that's an overstatement and i dont think the push button gear selector is that big of a problem.
some people actually like because it's an unique and advance tech feature. i think the real problem for the TLX is the newly developed premature tranny. The car will sell but could be problematic down the road.

Don't worry Heracles, I'm sure there are still some pilots of propeller driven planes that swear that those new-fangled jet engines will never work.

While I would prefer a gear selector as well, there are many cars with unique designs that sell very well. For example, both BMW and Mercedes have shift nobs that are effectively "backwards" because reverse and drive are in the opposite direction of the normal shifting pattern. I was no fan of it, but when I drove a BMW I quickly got used to it.

The gear selector wasn't a deal breaker for me. In fact, it was a feature that helped sell the TLX even more for me. I liked having larger cup holder space and more room down the middle to rest my arm instead of having the gear selector there.

It took me a while to get used to it. And by "a while", I mean about a day. When I drive my Wife's 2009 MDX, I don't tell her, but to me it feels outdated and old fashioned. Haven't gotten close to pushing a button by accident and I even drive with my dog sometimes (with my wife in the car as well). I did try to put it in neutral one time while exiting an interstate but it wouldn't let me. I'm thinking that it wouldn't let me put it in park or reverse either when the car is above a very slow speed. Not willing to try it though in my own car. Any takers???

Let's see.
The Prius had (has) a funky lever design and it hasn't affected sales
The BMW 5 series had (has) a funky lever design and it hasn't negatively affected sales
The MB E class had (has) a funky lever design and it hasn't negatively affected sales. For that matter, MB has had a funky cruise control lever where the directional stalk should be and it hasn't affected sales.
The Jaguar has a funky shift knob and it hasn't affected sales.
All of them raised ire from the various communities when they were first introduced.

Personally, I like the previous writers enjoy the pushbuttons. Acura will come around and fix this issue.
I have the 6cyl Advance PAWS vehicle. So far, there is no apparent issue. I like some of the other owners do not use the emergency brake.
It Is What It Is, until it isn't.

A car that won't let you do dumb stuff? I am sure Seinfeld has a joke or two about that.
PS. The gear selector is great, très sexy aussi

I've gotten used to this feature very quickly. In fact, much quicker than I thought I would. I've come to actually appreciate this feature once I stopped to think how many times my purse strap would get caught on the gear shifter or parking brake when exiting the car. Now there's no more of that...I really like the open space now.

I love the push button shifter in my RLX. As far as doing stuff by accident by pushing a button, you can't. You have to be really, really hamfisted to mess up with the new shifter. I do miss having someplace to rest my hand.....but that right hand belongs on the steering wheel, anyway.

I am giving away my age here, but several cars in the late 50's and early 60's had push button transmissions.
AMC Rambler & Ambassador (except American) 1958-1962
All Chrysler Products 1956-1964
Edsel 1958 (upper line Corsair and Citation only)
The Rambler and Chrysler products had the pushbuttons to the left of the steering column. The Edsel had the pushbuttons in the steering wheel hub.
Maybe Acura is going for some nostalgia instead of being futuristic!

Judging by the sales numbers, looks like the OP is quite wrong.
As I mentioned in my other thread, I love the push buttons, and the extra space there now is in center console area. I'll also never miss my work bag, or other items getting accidentally hooked on the shifter, or parking brake lever when I grab them from the passengers side floor board.
Instead of a negative, it was a selling point for me.

I agree with all of you guys...at the end of the day, we all have preference whether we like the push button or not but far from being a deal breaker in my mind.
That seems to be the trend these days, Mercedes, Chrysler and Acura does it (as others)...Do I like it? Personally, I prefer the lever over the button but I will never claim that it is confusing to use or that it will steer me away from buying one just because of that.

My wife thinks it's really cool, and I have gotten to think it's nifty (technical term) myself.
