I like the commercial but personally I don't think they should use the throwback "Precision Crafted Performance" slogan just yet.

I am impressed with Acura stepping up the advertising and the format now they just some sportiness to back it up. Type-S TLX and ILX are needed.

Meaning Acura hasn't earned it yet? Or don't use it because it's not a good slogan?

I like the slogan and it's much better than "It's that kind of Thrill."

At least it's more factual than the last TLX commercial...

- i-VTEC optimizing engine performance at any RPM?
- upshifting (+) with the paddle shift makes the RPMs go up, not down?

Easily their best marketing material in years, still needs work. Now, a great vehicle commercial is the new Tacoma - everytime I see that thing blasting thru the sand I want to go buy one

Lot of hoopla and nice shots with nothing to back up their claims.

The problem is Acura of the olden days are gone...as I know this horse has been beaten to several deaths already on this board. (as is evidence on the NSX thread and the car talk thread I started)

What everyone is not getting is this: "If there's a perception...escape it!"

Ikeda, current chief of Acura, has said that they are wanting to take the Acura brand to more "grown up" versions and the old Acuras were too much being liked by teenagers. So they are trying to escape that perception.

They are going to be more Buick/Lincoln like, and not Cadillac, unfortunately. The NSX will be out of reach for 99% of the car buyers and the rest of the models are falling behind competitors.

I don't think Acura is falling behind competitors. The MDX is very successful and they are giving it a sportier look this year. The RDX will soon follow those sportier design cues with the next generation. The TLX is lacking in some areas but those will be addressed with MMC. I agree they need to stick true to their word bringing back precision crafted performance, but I think this commercial is just showing what their new agenda is.

How is this commercial related to bringing the spirit back? What does that mean? They are still emphasizing engine noise and speed which only applies to the NSX. They show the other cars just for line up purposes but what does this commercial mean exactly?

Great ad. I like that they are tying in the NSX and even a glimpse of the new concept car into their marketing. This commercial, the introduction of the NSX, the new concept car and just what we're hearing from the top brass all tell me that exciting days are ahead at Acura.

That NSX startup at 0:26 though let's hope they tune MMC TLX V6 exhaust like this!!

In general, I'm hoping the marketing we've seen recently is indicative of more philosophical changes at the calipers brand. I'm not holding my breath, however.

Although all ads are designed to sell vehicles, first and foremost, its interesting to see the different types of ads are out there. Some are very specific and detailed such as the Chevrolet Malibu ads, some are very general and market more of a concept, and lets be candid, a fantasy (eg. the Hyundai Tucson motoring through the desert), and a few highlight current brand direction and selling points (Hyundai - lots of content at low prices…unless you lease. The Acura video represents what I think is another type of ad, setting out principles for current AND future development. They did a good job in mixing in the NSX, a fantasy vehicle for 99.9% of us, into the other vehicles in their line-up. This is a table setter for their future plans, but I hope they retain the very best things they do now, which is reliable vehicles that balance style, technology, performance, fuel economy, comfort, engine choices, etc…...while adding some of the additional excitement that enthusiasts here crave. Time will tell.

Ads don't mean anything till they start building inspired cars. If they are going to continue hiding tail pipes wanting their cars to look green, then they should only build hybrids. Last time I looked their cars are bland. NSX due out in one month we will see how that goes. They need to hit home run with mid model redo with TLX say Type S model ........

Personally I was appalled with no fancy tailpipes showing, but I've grown to not dislike it so much. My 2010 MDX is a pain to keep the tailpipes clean and with the TLX I don't have to worry about cleaning them. I respect your viewpoint but I hope my next Acura doesn't have them on display so that i'm having to polish them to look halfway decent.

I started to share this on the RLX Forum just for that specific reason but since I don't have the RL anymore and currently have a TLX I didn't share. Yes it was great to see it there!

I would guess if you asked Acura engineers, they might tell you the switch to hidden tail pipes coincided with Acura's switch to direct port fuel injection. Ever look at the (formerly) shiny exhausts of many makers' DI cars? They're nice and sooty after awhile.

Think a lot of it is tune related. Generally cars with sooty tail pipes are also showing lower gas mileage than its peers because they are running rich. Have a DI that is not causing black tail pipes & has good gas mileage for its type.

They could increase the enthusiasts interest in the current car, as a stop gap, by doing something as simple as giving the buyers a choice of A/S or Summer tires. No real investment on their part outside of some inventory control software.

They did this successfully in the past then stopped it sometime IIRC in the 4G series.

You don't want exhaust pipes showing because you'd have to clean them? You're definitely in the minority.

I suspect an AS/S version with different tires could be in the offing for 2017. I assume it will come down to design and production costs vs potential sales, perhaps the same reason why over the last few years manuals have been replaced by paddle shifters across the line-up. Mass production keeps costs down and profit up, if I recall my Economics 101.

I don't claim to know their costing model, but in the very competitive mid-size market luxury and premium cars, i wonder if some of the costs for producing versions for niche markets may be absorbed by price increases arose the line-up, ergo their need to ensure sufficient TYPE A/Ss, in this case, will be sold.

Quad exhausts? Gheez, I can barely keep up with my single exhaust, I would go through too many tighty whities if God gave me a quad tip exhaust system!
