Dear Acura

So if your a semi-regular surveyor of these Acurazine forums you may have come across a sentiment...a sort of combination of sadness and anger as fueled by nostalgia to the good ol' days when there was the legendary NSX, Integra, RSX, et. al.

The on-going discussion in the NSX thread is half NSX-related and half Why doesn't Acura make exciting enthusiast cars anymore discussion.

You can read some of the more established forum member's posts:

Okay not bad looking 2g TL at all!

Came in 2nd place in a 95 RT review...just shy of the Porsche and ahead of the Ferrari (!)

A new generation begins with the NSX:

Honorary mention:

But current offerings have been non-soul stirring as it seems.

I dug around to see if there were any executive changes at Acura and found that Jonn Ikeda, who has been with Honda/Acura since 1989 as a designer and one of the few who now is Boss of Acura America (moving on up to the top executive job from the design studio instead of the business office)...AND apparently he was partially responsible for the 2004-2008 Acura TL design!!!
Jon Ikeda is credited with styling the third-generation Acura TL. The midsize sedan is among the brand’s top sellers.
http://www.autonews.com/article/2015...at-acura-needs

So after reading that I was quite excited. Someone from a creative background heading Acura instead of a paper pusher! Nice!

Maybe there is a better future after all.

The latest marketing campaign is touted as "Precision Crafted Performance" Sounds nice but then again sounds like a meaningless empty feel-good slogan as well. I mean who doesn't want Precision...or Crafted....or Performance.

Here's the post featuring that ad and some tid bit about it: https://acurazine.com/forums/automot.../#post15656342

And this is somewhat concerning though:
Acura turns 30 this year in March, Ikeda said, and he associates the brand with someone who’s no longer a kid and is more sure of who they are.
From the wiki page on Acura:
It is not known why the RSX did not continue to be sold as the Integra in Japan, however, the reason that Acura gave for the cancellation of the RSX is that Acura wishes to move up in the luxury brand, thus cannot sell a car that is mostly driven by teenagers.
It goes on to say that the NSX commercial during SuperBowl will try to re-ignite their excitement in Acura but as has been opined...it seems to be a marketing campaign so far.

And may be the glory days are over...as another article I came across mentioned the movement of Acura into more "mature luxury" the likes of Lincoln/etc.

I mean are we supposed to have "grown up" and moved on with our tastes? cause personally I feel like it's totally fine to still be a kid at heart!

Anyway, contribute images/opinions/rants and we'll see what Acura comes up with. But it does seem promising, somewhat, to see the guy behind the 3G TL as head of Acura today.

I can see lot of older members on this forum who no longer own Acuras...but still stuck around....they have moved on, if you will, to more "adult" cars but still I read and see them lament the good ol' days and really I think they are itching to get back into an Acura if the right car comes along. And it's somewhat sad to see. Because lot of people are still buying Acuras and joining the forum.

This topic cracks me up.

It's almost borderline sad that you see people getting on their hands & knees praying that Acura will make some cars with some enthusiasm.

My suggestion is:

Move on and find another car company that already has has already catered to us enthusiasts .. cause there's plenty to go around.

You also forgot:

2nd Gen Legend Coupe (with 6MT)

2nd Gen Integra GS-R:

And the last good offerings from Acura, albeit being sedans only...

Acura CSX Type S (Canada ONLY):

Acura TL Type S:

And then everything went even further down hill from there. While I praise Ikeda for what he did for the 3G TL, I feel I have to revoke all of that since he was also involved with the 4G TL :bleh:

Acura in 1987

I accelerated my silver '87 Acura Integra to 88 mph, and landed in 1987. I found a brochure that captures the company Acura used to be. I got an image of the inside front cover and the inside back cover in pdf format.

Enjoy!

Acura SLX

In Part II, I find myself in 1998, looking at an issue of Acura Driver. In the future, the bi-annual publication is known as Acura Style. I found the forgotten Acura SLX. Is this the ancestor of the MDX?

Nah - the SLX was a rebadged, Isuzu Trooper. Just like the Honda Passport was a rebadged Isuzu Rodeo.

I agree, but Joe Isuzu might disagree
