Loaner TLX discount?

I'm considering a TLX V6 Tech, but as the 2015 inventories are starting to run thin, my dealership does not have the color combo I want. However, they seem to have a previous loaner TLX V6 Tech with my desired color combo.

Now, I don't really have an issue with buying a 5k "used" TLX, especially since it is certified for another year and 12k miles. However, the biggest drawback is the car's title for the first owner is branded as a "Rental." My dealership is selling brand new TLX's dirt cheap already, how much is a reasonable discount to compensate for the Rental title? If it were just a loaner branded "commercial" or "private owner/lease" I think I would be fine with paying ~$1500 less than a new one. However, the "rental" title does give the car a different vibe as a buyer. How much would you say is a fair price for a "rental" branded TLX V6 Tech w/ 5k or so miles?

I am not driving this car to the ground - Will likely sell in 2 to 3 years or so, so the resale value is important to me. Also considering just leasing with 15k miles/yr, but I think that 15k will be a bit low, and I am unsure about what my commute will be in late 2016/early 2017, so I don't want to dig myself a giant hole or have too many miles left over.

Rental, commercial, private owner/lease,.... it doesn't matter. The car is used and should be priced/valued as such, maybe even slightly less considering all the different people who've driven (and potentially abused) it.

I know when I get a loaner, I'll "have some fun" with it to see what it can do just because it's not my car.

Not sure where you are basing the $1500 off a new one... How much are they selling? With 2015s selling for at least 5k off msrp, you might be better off getting a new one especially since you are concerned about resale value.

I would offer 35,000 for the car. I got my tech for 36,500 so I would imagine 35,000 is possible.

CTNYC,

I didnt realize you were in VA. You should check out Pohanka Acura - they're one of the largest dealers in the US and can therefore give betters deals on the cars. There is a thread on here about someone getting a AWD Advance for $37,500. Remember the area has a lot to do with the price you get - the smaller dealerships can't afford to deal as much. I would go $1500 below the cheapest price on a new one. The dealer may so not then try to meet him 1/2 way... max. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies everyone

AZuser - True, they are all used, but to my knowledge (or maybe it's just me, idk), people are willing to pay less for a car with a "rental" title as opposed to a lease or private owner or commercial title. Just the stigma to it I guess?

jswift2000 - My preferred dealership is actually Pohanka (And I've driven many of their loaner cars as my ILX likes to have many many problems). I have received incredibly competitive prices from them for brand new. They quoted me $32,490 + $599 doc + TTL for a brand new TLX V6 Tech with no negotiations. Given the low price they offered, I'm unsure how much more they would go down, as there's a certain price point where they can get more for it at auction. Personally, I think I'd be shooting for $30k for the rental title, which is probably not realistic, but once I'm actually ready to purchase, we'll see how that goes. (Can't right now since I got into an accident with my ILX and the other driver's insurance company is being very difficult).

I would shoot for $31,500 or $32k including destination and doc fee. That is a fair price for a car with 5k miles on it. The longer you wait the better the deal will get but you risk them selling the car to someone else. Good luck!!!

How about find one with your color combo from an out of state dealership?

From my experience, dealerships are willing to deal on new cars, not so much on used or CPO ones.

If you are going to sell the car in 2-3 years, just do a lease with pre-purchased higher mileage

Issue with leasing for me is that in 2013, I was doing 28k/year, this year and last, its around 10k/year, and I know that in late 2016/early 2017, my situation will change again, so I don't want to commit to overbuying miles or underbuying miles :/ As for to of state, not many seem to want to deal as low at Pohanka

The better financial move is probably to hold onto my (POS) ILX Hybrid until things are more stable (or until the dealership makes me a real offer on my car)

Then spend 12k buy a Civic/Fit, and drive it 3 years and sell it for 8K.

Haha -- I'd like to have something a bit nicer to drive than a Civic (although, I guess I'm basically driving a Civic since I have an ILX)

I'm toying about a TLX, I guess depending on what incentives are available in December, I might pull the trigger then (If I get a better deal, I can flexible with almost any color color, but definitely no cars with tan interior

Anyways, thanks for the help all! I'll go back to lurking in the quiet ILX forum corners

Dont worry about the title if the deal is good enough, who cares. But as others stated if its slightly less than buying a new one and they are apperently offering good deals just make sure its worth the price.

As far as the title of "rental car" that has you worried, dont worry at all. Its not a big deal to say it was used by an Acura dealer, not say a 3rd party one like Enterprise. Keep your receipts and the next owner wont care

My father bought is 2009 TL tech pkg "used" in November of 2009 with 6,000 miles on it, Acura dealer said it was their loaner car. He paid probably $8,000 less than if it was new. It was in perfect shape, still is to this day he still has it at 80K and had no issues. No clue what that looks like on a carfax but we fill find out when we sell it in a few more years!

I bought my TLX V6 base with 6200 miles on it for 27.5k(roughly 8500 off sticker) It was the dealer's "salesman/loaner" driver. It looks new. I've put 2000 miles on it without any issues.(I drive 500/week).
