Just Got The Call - New Dealer Info!

I did this with my 3G TL. I put down a deposit based on the final spy pix released and received the first one delivered at my dealership. Thankfully, it was an awesome car. I had some faith and basic expectations, having driven a 2G TL before. From the aggressive pricing, I think this will be a strong seller. I have certainly taken notice.

Outgoing vice TLX pricing
Just price alone, not trying to compare features... I'm glad they didn't try to price it like the RLX. I think they got the pricing right.

I think the I4 Tech will be the top selling trim level.
I think this car is looking pretty good. Just need to drive the I4 and V6 and see if it is the car for me.

So the high-end 2015 TLX 3.5 9AT AWD Elite at $47,490 CDN is cheaper than the outgoing 2014 TL SH AWD Elite at $49,590 CDN by $2,100 CDN !! Interesting. Unless they screw us over and the Elite in Canada is some hyped US Tech version. I hope not.
PS. Maybe they are indirectly predicting the Canadian dollar to go up to par again?

With a reduced price tag than the outgoing 4G TL, looks like the TLX will be a winner for Acura.

Now with the new TLX being 3.8" shorter than the outgoing TL, is the interior going to be smaller to be inline with their Q and IS competitors or did they just reduce front and rear overhang?

I believe so. I think its stupid, but it is the same for RLX and RLX Navi. You have to get Tech to get leather. On the plus side, there seems to be some uniformity between the Tech Package across the three drivetrains.*

Base 2.4L and 3.5L cars have this, then Tech adds leather, and Advance adds perforation for the Ventilation.

Correct. If anything, the TLX feels in outside and inside room, a lot like the 2004-2008 TL. The current 4th gen is long and stretched out, but with pinched windows and high sills. The TLX isn't as large overall but fits well inside.

This is true, but I can say, having been in the "base" cars without leather, unlike the RLX you can still pick other interior colors (i.e. not just black) and it feels better. Actually the last one I sat in was a Fathom Blue & Graystone base 2.4L and without realizing it, I didn't even notice the difference in seat materials. It's nice.

This might explain the aggressive pricing. Now you need to get the Advance model to get the Milano leather, which used to come on the Tech?
#55
I'm confused. It sounded like, and I had thought I read, that the base models don't have leather (possibly fake leather) and that the Tech and Advance trims come with Milano leather.

I don't know if there is a distinction between Tech leather and Advance perforated leather (beyond the perforations). I don't believe this information has been officially provided yet.

Yes thats true. I was looking at all these numbers and still trying to figure out how they'll make any money out of this car. I guess the investments in infrastructure, business decisions to move production around the US and Canada and I am sure cost cuts... are all paying off, enabling Acura (and Honda) to provide much more competitive pricing for each car in each class and pass on savings to the consumers. But who am I kidding, I am sure they are looking at a much bigger picture we mortals here in AZ don't know yet !

Now, I am particularly excited to see that for the Canadian Tech and Elite models (Elite = Advance in US), the features include heated front AND REAR seats, LED fog lights, as well as heated steering wheel:
"...Further, the TLX Tech and Elite trim levels add a host of available features, including Premium Milano leather-trimmed interior, a remote engine starter, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, LED fog lights, and more. The 2015 Acura TLX will also be available with a suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies, including the Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow and Blind Spot Indicator (BSI)."
Now, that is pretty exciting! Are the heated rear seats and heated steering wheel Canadian only features???

Wow.... that pricing is definitely going to catch a lot of people's attention. That combined with how good the car actually looks will definitely make some people look at Acura more seriously when car shopping.
I was on the fence with if I loved the car or not assuming the starting price would be a bit higher. But with that price point, it would definitely be at the top of my list of cars I'd consider in that price range. If I can justify selling or trading in my car anytime soon, this will definitely be the car I upgrade to if I like it in person. But I probably won't test drive one anytime soon because I don't want to end up walking away with one just yet.

There are rumors on RLX threads that maybe true SH-AWD will appear at MMC and that price realignment will occur. I think that is what needs to happen. The advance with real SH-AWD at $58-60K is reasonable. Then make SH-AWD RLX Tech and a base car and if the vaporware RLH Sport Hybrid does appear then that should be a Advance trim only model for maybe $62K

If Acura can't get the sport hybrid RLX out anytime soon, they will have to do something. Regular SH-AWD could be an option, I suppose. I get the feeling, though, that they will go big and not do that, wanting to differentiate the RLX from the TLX.
For me it doesn't matter because since the sport hybrid is on indefinite delay--we have now been waiting 18 months after initial announcement-- I'll definitely be test driving a TLX SH-AWD. At this pricing, it'd be nuts not to do so. I agree that we are not going to see major discounts for a while on this one because of the aggressive pricing.

I believe the only alternative for them is to continue offering factory to dealer incentive money, and/or combining trim levels to improve the value. For example, they could say that all RLXs are now standard with leather and navigation at the base model's price. Effectively making the technology package the base model without actually saying it. Of course, this creates a new problem where Technology Package models across the lineup are no longer equal in feature content. Something they seem to be working towards and something they need to do.

My guess is that they are on track with the RLX, but it will take a while. Its not like they are working with unlimited resources and they are very focused on what they do. At least this is the impression I have of the new management at Acura.
#74
Yup. Can't will 'em all. Seriously, they're selling 300 a month and adding more models means every dealer gets ... 1/2 a car in one color only? There is the MDX, RDX, TLX all available with AWD. If that doesn't suit some, there is a point where you have to quit.

Colin a quick question: How many Acura dealerships are there in the US? I used to be able to actually look them on by state on acura.com, but since they did an update, you need an address, city or zip code and go from there.
I wonder how many dealers in Canada as well? I may google it.
EDIT: Wikipedia said there's 210 Honda dealerships and 50 Acura dealerships in Canada.

I thought the entire Acura line up will get an AWD version beginning in 2016 Colin? Sorry I may have missed the context from which you based your response.

Somewhat more surprising is that the 2015 TLX passenger cabin is also slightly smaller than even the 2014 TSX at 93.3 vs 94.5 cu ft. The trunk volume on the TSX is nearly the same as the TLX Advance.
Here are the numbers:
2015 TLX
EPA Passenger Volume = 93.3 cu ft
EPA Cargo Volume = 13.2 cu ft for base and Tech (14.3 cu ft for Advance)
EPA Total Interior Volume = 106.5/107.6 cu ft
Compared toEPA Cargo Volume = 13.2 cu ft for base and Tech (14.3 cu ft for Advance)
EPA Total Interior Volume = 106.5/107.6 cu ft
2014 TL
EPA Passenger Volume = 98.2 cu ft
EPA Cargo Volume = 13.1 cu ft
EPA Total Interior Volume = 111.3 cu ft
EPA Cargo Volume = 13.1 cu ft
EPA Total Interior Volume = 111.3 cu ft
2014 TSX
EPA Passenger Volume = 94.5 cu ft
EPA Cargo Volume = 14 cu ft
EPA Total Interior Volume = 108.5 cu ft
EPA Cargo Volume = 14 cu ft
EPA Total Interior Volume = 108.5 cu ft

Three Wheelin'
The better option is to update the RLX with some of the features that it's sorely missing to make it worth the extra cost (e.g. IDS, Heated-steering wheels, rear seat A/C controls, better ambient internal lighting, better suspension, automatic trunk, HUD (optional, not just stuck to the RLXh), regular SH-AWD option, improved NAV performance, remote start included (not optional)...the list goes on.
