IIHS rating is in...

Top Safety pick+ designation, with good ratings across the board with the exception of the tough small overlap test where the tlx scored an acceptable.

👍

Even with all those high scores for safety your insurance will still increase when you buy this car.

I am wondering why you said that? Mine went down when I switched from my 2012 TL SH-AWD Elite to 2015 TLX SH-AWD Elite.

With how well Honda/Acura are typically known for their safety and this being a new car, im disappointed by the Acceptable rating for the overlap test.

Because ever since 2003 I have owned 8 acuras and every time the insurance went up even with the 2014 mdx, which I have just recently traded out off was very disappointed with the built quality.

^ you need to study the individual items of coverage. The key items that should decline for a safe car are: bodily injury & uninsured motorist bodily injury. However, it might take a year or more to see those items change. After all, they just crashed a car recently and it will take some time to see how the claims look for future accidents.

I would expect collision and comprehensive to go up with each new car because the value of the car should be higher than your previous car.

When I trade my type- s for Audi A4 my insurance went down by 150 dollars this is back in 2009 when the a4 just came out with led headlights too.

Especially when 2012 tl nailed it... I guess some things were better with older model.

I made a thread on TOV about it. I compared it to the Accord. http://www.vtec.net/news/news-item?news_item_id=1210509

I believe it is because of the larger wheels intruding the passenger compartment. This is an issue on all cars, like the Civic from memory.

Comparing pictures between the Accord and TLX shows the chassis are designed equally.

LOL, or possibly the previous TL results were a fluke or these tests are somewhat random in their results? I remember being shocked that the old car passed, but when I watched the TL video, it seemed like it took the barrier in a way that produced a glancing blow that sheered off the door skin.

Why? Why? Why? They couldn't get a white one or what? LOL.

PS. The important thing is what happens in the car, not outside. THe fact that on the small overlap the head of the driver didn't miss the air bag is a good thing. If you look at all kinds of other crash videos you'll see how the head slips off to the left and hits the dash. A good example is the 2014 Lincoln MKS, head hits dash, airbag useless.

Mine did by $2 a month. And that's coming from a 2006 TL, worth about $30K less, and going into a V6 Advance. I'll take it.

That tire size make sense. I still don't know why Honda would even go with such narrow tires for the 17 and 18" wheels on the TLX.

It's hard to believe, looking at that, but this is exactly the result we want to see.

It is a very severe crash, but there is almost zero intrusion into the cage and the car was successful in reducing the G-force brain injury sufficiently enough to be able to say that you would walk out of that crash asking what happened.

:-)

It is one element of a car's characteristics that most buyers overlook based on the premise it ain't going to happen to me. The RLX and TLX both get great ratings. The salesman in me needs to run with this idea to my wife. "Honey your life is precious and all the money in the world is secondary to your safety now can I get that new RLX"!!!

So the TL had a tad more front end and likely more in the front suspension area to absorb the impact due to the DWB

Agree. Looks like dummy banged his knee pretty bad and his ankle got twisted a bit. Maybe the original impact was more severe and what we see in the picture is where the material bounced back after the crash.

Honda must be disappointed also. They had predicted that the TLX would receive a good rating in the overlap test. 2015 Acura TLX: Safety and Driver Asistive Technologies - Honda.com

Do you suppose it could have to do with the fuel economy expected by people buying a 2015 4 cylinder?
