Fragile Windshield
Has anybody else experienced windshield cracking on a more frequent basis on the TLX? On my old TSX, I never had to replace my windshield and now with less than a year in the TLX, I have gone through 3, all OEM replacements made by AGC.
What is interesting is that all three times, the crack begins at the bottom center (between the two wipers) and propagate upwards rapidly. I'm beginning to wonder if the design of the TLX frame is leading to higher stress concentration at the center of the windshield, making it more prone to cracking from rock impacts. Curious to see what other owners have seen.

Strange. I'm now 13 months in and windshield is fine, even with salt rocks sprayed on it during the winter.

Probably too many variables to consider. My wife's '09 Pilot has gone through 3 windshields over the last 5 years but my TL has been fine with the one it had when I purchased it two years ago. And I've put 100K miles on mine whereas she's only put 50K miles on hers in 5 years.

Wasn't there a topic about windshield cracked for no reason? I think it was a design flaw on the MDX? I can't remember what was the solution, but you might wanna browse thru the forum and see.

I bought mine back in August 2014, I think, and haven't experienced this. Of course, now it's going to happen.

I wouldn’t say mine cracks for no apparent reason since I was able to spot the rock flying towards me just seconds from impact every time. I’ve endured the same impacts in the TSX before and the worst damage was a star chip. The TLX cracks before I even have a chance to curse. Sigh...im essentially providing job security for the windshield repair company at this point.

I came back from a road trip with my 18 TLX.
I got a nice nick on the windshield. Safe lite indicated only cosmetic. I can see this windshield being weak.
Once I got back, I upgraded my coverage to 0 deductable for windshield with progressive. You probably need OEM glass for this car.
The good news is I got 0 rock chips on the paint. I usually get some. The paint seems stronger than my last Honda’s.
Anybody else think the paint is better?

Still on the original almost 4 years later. Went through 2 windshields on the MDX, but both were strikes by rather large objects at highway speeds.
Haven't seen any reports about issues here related to the windshield.

A guy I know with a '15 TLX had his cracked a few days ago by what he thinks was a small rock. Top center it started and then spread down and across in a few days. He has about 20k miles on it. I had quite a few rocks hit my 07 TL and never a crack so maybe there is some fragility to the TLX glass. I also recall a thread about this maybe last year.

Haven't had any issues with my 2015. There's a few chips in the glass, but no cracks anywhere

I really hope it's not fragile, I already went through 1 replacement already, but probably could have avoided that if I had seen the original chip. The rock hit the area right above my mirror and it wasn't visible from inside until it started to spider. Pain in the ass to deal with because of the camera recalibration and Geico tries to limit what they cover on the replacement.

I took a rock to the hood bulge on my '18 within a week of purchase. Gouged through the clear and the paint down to the primer. Factory paint is applied very thin IMO.

I got hit and saw the damn rock flew right onto my windshield 2 summers ago. I got it fixed within a week. Not sure if it's my eyes are playing trick on me or what, but I see the chip getting bigger, and there are times I see the same lol. I got it done thru safelite so that could be why as well.
That being said, if you're concerned, have Safelite inspect the repair.

It's your eyes. Although a repaired rock chip is more transparent, there's still a visible scar/blemish. If repaired properly, it's not going to "get bigger", but due to light reflection, filled cracks often "seem" to reappear.

As far as the paint job, my TLX got more rock chips than both of my previous cars combined. I truly believe TLX paint is too damn thin comparing to older Honda models given that I stay and drive in the same area for the past 17 years. That might not a big factor but there isn't much constructions or bad road conditions where I been going.

Interesting you mention the strength of the TSX windshield. I've needed to replace the windshield on my 2010, but hey, it put up a good fight against a crumbling bridge in Ontario!
