Footwell Lighting
Loving my new TLX, but I miss the footwell lighting that my 4G TL had. Does anyone know of an easy way to add this onto the TLX or if there even is a way?
I like how the handles in the front have lights above them (wish the rear did too, but oh well I'm never back there) but it would feel a lot nicer if there were dim halogen lights in the footwells. Love how my 2013 MDX is yellow when the door opens and then blue when I'm driving. Ambient lighting just makes the car feel a lot nicer IMO. Would appreciate any feedback!

I have some ideas in mind but I was going to make it a winter project so I didn't bother posting anything here yet.
What I plan to do is tap into the LED for the phone bin and use the 12 VDC to power a wireless RGB LED Strip light controller. I was going to use waterproof RGB LED strip lights that I can cut to a desired length (in 3 inch increments I believe) and solder some wires onto the strip light. I could then mount the strip light sections wherever I wanted because they are very small and they don't put off any heat.
The nice thing abut using the existing light is the ability to have it come on and go off with the factory lighting.
The reason for using the wireless controller is so I can mount the module underneath the dash and use the remote to change the color to whatever I desire. I did plan on keeping it blue to match the other lights.
The entire cost of the mod (if it goes to plan) should only be $30 to $50 depending on the cost of the strip light. I have several rolls at my disposal so that's a plus.
It should be possible to just tap into the wiring and add any other type of relay or light without much hassle but I don't know for sure since I haven't disassembled the center stack yet.
Hope this helps and when I actually do the project I'll take as many photos and put together a DIY for others.
Here's the link to the controller on Amazon:

I had seen that post and others like it on other websites and that will work fine, and in most cases, that's exactly what people want. By using the controller, I can have multiple colors and dim the lights to get the correct amount of lighting. If I want, I could even turn off the lights with the remote without having to put in a switch or remove a fuse or wire. It's really no different in the amount of installation time and the flexibility of the controller makes it worth the extra $20 IMHO.

Thought about this a bit today, anybody think it'd be possible to wire into the plugs for the illuminated door sill trim? That way, they'd turn on when the doors are open and shut off when the doors are closed. This could be combined with an always-on option to have a change in color like OP wanted.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm going to have to hold off as I'm having issues with my subwoofer/rear deck so I have a feeling it'll be at the dealership for a while. Not too happy about it

Interesting... the installation instructions imply that the door sill lights should turn off when the door is closed. Well, it's a potential connection option either way.
