First Oil Change Question - Low Mileage

I bought my new 2020 Acura TLX V6 Tech FWD about a year ago. It only has just over 1000 miles, since we're currently work from home.

We are planning to go back in the office in January so will be putting 800 miles per month on this beginning in January.

I was planning to change the oil soon since the manual says the sooner of 1) whenever the maintenance minder indicates of 2) one year.

Is that a good plan? Since it is the "break in oil", it has probably been in the vehicle more than a year since it would have been manufactured before I purchased it. Dealer said I could wait until it got down to 20% if I wanted, but by the time it gets to that, the vehicle would have been manufactured 2 years!

So I'm thinking its better to change it sooner, even though its just over 1000 miles. Is that correct?

Also, dealer is saying 2020 TLX V6 requires 0W 20 full synthetic. Is that correct for this vehicle that Acura requires or recommends full synthetic oil?

Oil and engine technology has changed so much the last 10-15yrs. These aren't performance cars by any means so the "break in" period for the TLX is a few hundred miles as the oil will have sealed everything it needs to. You're safe to change your oil.

Follow what's on the oil fill cap, but yes it is 0w-20 full synthetic. I personally have used Mobil 1, Amazon oil, Royal Purple, and have since switched to Motul. I'm at 93600 miles and my engine is running smoothly.

I was in a similar situation as you, although not quite so few miles. My 2020 had about 3500 after 1 year in late August, and 2100 of them were because I drove it from RI to CO.

I changed the oil @ the 1 year mark, full synthetic. Local dealer changed it for 40 bux.

best to change at 1 year mark despite the amount of miles as the oil does gain moisture over time from air, breaks down, etc

YES do like you said, when the car tells you OR 1 year. I personally moved to Hawaii but left my TLX in California and drive it 2 or 3 times a year when I am back, so only a couple thousand miles a year. Im doing it once a year.
