First Oil change going to take forever

Ok had the car since the end of June 05. It has 2000 miles on it so far in mid september. I will follow the severe schedule for an oil change because I only live 2-3 miles from work. I'm basically only putting ~800 miles on the car per month so an oil change at 5000 will be like 5-6 Months!!!. Is the 5000 mile mark no matter how long it takes to get there or should I get the first oil change sooner? I laughed when the dealer threw in the free oil change coupon that has an expiration date of like 2 months.

The manual will not only state a mileage but also a "time period".
For example for normal it will say "10,000 miles or every 6 months". Basically do whichever one comes first. I'm not sure on the time interval on the severe service.
