I just went by the oil % in the car, I got mine changed at 20% which I believe was somewhere around 4,500 miles
I'm going to follow the maintenance minder (It will be around 8,500 miles at the rate I'm going) for oil changes.
i'm only at 50% and about 4750 miles.
I was thinking of changing it at 5k miles.. but the oil monitor is only at 50%...
I dont think the TLX came with a maintenance schedule did it? is it in the owner manual?

Just follow the Maintenance Minder which gives you a warning at 15% "Maintenance Due Soon" so that you can plan a service that fits your schedule. Then another at 5% "Maintenance Due Now". Finally at 0% oil life remaining is the "Maintenance Past Due". The actual mileage will vary largely depending on your driving characteristics.

this information is also in your owners manual.
Does the TLX take synthetic oil? These new cars will never last long with these oil intervals I hope they are leased cars. The poor suckers who will buy them afterwards and then call them lemons.
^^ Are you trolling to stir up some controversy? Of course synthetic oil can be used but that will not change the cars calculation of oil life remaining. Where do you get the idea that the cars will not last with these oil change intervals? Acura would be shooting themselves in the foot if their oil change intervals were too long.
Nonsense.
These cars, like most others out there nowadays will be put out of service for numerous other reasons long before engine wear becomes the motivating factor.
FWIW, I run synthetics in all my cars, and have been for quite some time now.

I don't use synthetic oil on my vehicles because I change my oil every 4months but if your going 5000miles and its at 40% life do you really think that motor oil is any good, if your using synthetic you will have some added protection. I'm no engineer but we are talking about 7000 miles which is what 11000 kms (in Canada) on a oil change. That car will definitely be burning oil after five years.
Head over to the "Bob is the oil guy" forums, and do some reading, and look at actual used oil analyses. 4 month oil changes are nothing but a waste of time, money, and resources perpetrated by the quick lube places.
If the manufacturer could make an actual argument to sell you oil changes 3-4 times a year, they would

Just trying to help people who don't lease there cars and want to keep them for a long period of time, that its not wise to follow the computer because once the warranty is over Acura will wash there hands and you will be left with a car that burns oil and a hefty repair bill.

the chemistry in oil is a lot different than of yesteryear.

My parents got rid of a 13 yr old Altima which received only dino oil changes every 7500 miles if that, and it didn't burn a drop.
Like I said though, go to BITOG, and read up. Tribologists frequent that forum, and they have tons of useful data to share.
I use synthetics because it was actually spec'd on a few of my cars, and for the others, I prefer the added detergents, and cold weather protection. I usually buy my own oil, and my local indy changes it for only a few bucks, so the extra costs are minimal, especially at these intervals.

Btw, my first oil change in my TLX was at around 6500 miles or so. Just change the oil when the MID tells you to. They used to put additives in the oil from the factory to help break the engine in - I'm not sure if they still do or not, but I'd just leave it in there until the car tells you to change it.
I see plenty of newer cars burning oil on the road. I am just trying to warn people some years down the road on conventional oil at 7000miles that car is going to start to burn oil, the protection is not there. Obviously synthetic does offer better protection. Still no has answered my question does Acura change the oil with synthetic oil on the new TLX or is it too early?
Have you examined what is causing those car to burn oil, e.g. they failed to change oil regularly or did they change at the manufactures recommended schedule?
Your view is strictly a personal view, with no scientific testing to back it up. Of course you are free to offer advice, but it is contrary to the recommendations of the major car manufacturers. I choose to follow their advise.
Acura will only put in synthetic oil if specifically requested with the corresponding additional charge. The engine does not require it, and MIDI calculation does not recognize the difference.

c'mon man, stop spewing bull shit.
So what you are saying is that I should have followed my owners manual and changed the oil at there recommendation which is at every 7500miles or 12000kms. I honestly don't think my engine would have lasted 12 years without burning any oil, that's enough scientific proof I need.
Honda/Acura is one of the few that still does, so contrary to the old way of thinking, you do not want to change it out too early.

yes, your car would last 12 years without burning any oil.
Please google what makes cars burn oil.
its not the oil's fault.
"Cars burn oil because of lack of timely oil changes, this reduces the size of the piston rings thus allowing oil to pass the rings and to burn in the cylinder with the gas in more volume, thus creating a blue smoke out of the tail pipe"
Thanks for the advice just googled it.

the oil dealership use is bulk 0w20, not sure if that oil still maintains its properties same as the bottled ones at least one of the service tech at a dealership suggested and shared his opinion on type of oil he would use i.e. bottled ones
