Completed the deal on a SSM/Ebony i4 Base (Delivery by Sept 10th)

Today I went to my dealership and completed the deal (IT'S OFFICIAL!!!) on my SSM/Ebony i4 base which is set to be delivered by Sept. 10th (10 days and counting!). I was the first to place a pre-order for this combo back on July 20th. They now have 3 more orders for the same model (sure glad I was first!).

While they were really set on selling at MSRP from the beginning, I did manage to haggle them to get $390.00 off the price (got it at $31,500 before taxes, fees etc), and also got the Acura Advantage.

Before I did the paperwork, I test drove one (I had test driven a V6 before). I am extremely impressed with the i4. Coming from an 09 TSX, the TLX feels so much nicer, smoother, more refined in every way. The transmission shifts gears so smoothly you barely even feel it or notice. The cabin is near silent which is great as I do lots of highway driving, and the leatherette seats are VERY comfortable. Plus the dual screens are really SWEET (I'm a techie). I love the LARGE 8" top screen for the backup camera...make everything super easy to see. Touch screen is awesome. I can't wait for mine to come in...I'll be sure to post some pics for sure!

I thought the vinyl seats were exceptionally comfortable too. As good as Volvo's best. The vinyl may look better longer too, Who knows?

Got it!! I'm in love with this car already and only drove it a few miles lol Love the color, love the features, love the smooth ride, I could go on all day... It's a really nice step up from my 09 TSX.

I'll write up a more detailed review as I drive it more.

Here's a (crappy) pic at the dealership... It's raining so I'll get some much better pics by tomorrow hopefully.

I really like the looks of the TLX from every angle. Nice car!

How is the premium pleather, or whatever they call it, on the base model.

I'm interested in the base too, except for the fact that I love navi. Maybe an aftermarket navi would work. Does anyone have one of those. Do you just pop in in your glovebox? How do you stick those up where you can see them and keep them powered on? Can be solved, I suppose, but I'm spoiled by built-in navi on my 08 Accord and my wife's 13.

Congrats! She looks beautiful.

What are your impressions of the color after seeing it in person? Is the blue tinge to the color noticable like forged silver metallic on the 2012 TL?

Thanks!! I LOVE the color...I'm VERY glad I ordered it (without having seen it in person at the time)! Particularly the "chameleon-like" aspect of it - how it appears differently in different shades of light...from silver to silver/light blue.

I think it has a bit more silver/grey in it than Forged Silver Metallic. I recall when we were shopping for my wife's RDX and we saw FSM in person - it has a very blue hue to it - too much for our liking...we ended up getting Silver Moon.

Here are a few slightly better pics...when I get some time, I'll work on some quality (DSLR) pics to capture some real detail.

The pleather (leatherette) is great - it REALLY feels like leather, and is just as comfortable. And the durability is a plus! For navi - I use my phone...5.1" Galaxy S5 screen is plenty plus since I use my phone for music via bluetooth audio, the bluetooth integration is perfect (lowers the music and speaks directions thru the speakers). I got an AC vent mount on Amazon that works perfectly in the car (I have it to the left of the steering wheel). I had Navi in my 09 TSX and found Google Maps to be much more accurate (especially when it comes to businesses that closed/out of business).

By the way, the "Premium sound system" in the base model is AWESOME - it sounds EXCELLENT. Definitely exceeded my expectations. (Coming from an 09 TSX with tech package - ELS system)

That is a sweeeet color. Really like it.

Compared to an Accord, I imagine the paint on a TLX looks extra nice?

thanks!
About the paint... The accord seems to have a nice selection of colors including some very similar or the same TLX including metallic paint so I don't know if there would be a big difference in paint quality.

Somehow in your pix I can see some of the styling details better.

I like the complex and yet sleek creases on the hood. Same for the styling lines that subtly appear on the doors and then blend into the sides of the tail lights.

On the paint, I remember reading somewhere that Acura has extra steps added to the paint process compared to an Accord. But I don't remember the details? Extra coat? More expensive paint? More finishing? All of the above? Not sure....But it was something.

I saw this color on another TLX on Wednesday, another customer getting it with the vossen wheels that are on the white one...extremely sexy color. Congrats! Blue in some light, silver in others...overall like a battleship grey.

One common thread I see "it looks better in person" which I find to be the case - the pics don't really show the lines very well - especially the darker colors. The Silver (my second choice) and the White really stand out in this regard.

^^ I can attest to the fact that, as with ALL ACura products, they do look much better in person than in photos!

How does it handle compared to your TSX? I have a 2010 model and thinking of upgrading next year. Hard cornering etc.. Is it as good or better than the TSX?

So far my driving with it has been pretty conservative - not pushing it much yet until I get the full feel for the car and how it behaves. I can say that it feels bigger than the TSX - the steering feels a bit looser, more on the luxury side, compared to the small, tight sporty feel of the TSX. Personally, I love it as its exactly what I was looking for - quick shifting sporty 4 cylinder, with a very smooth ride.

Thanks for the great reviews, I've been looking mostly at the TL, but from what I'm seeing it may not be a bad idea to give the TLX a shot :-)
