Body shop got paint on passenger seat

Body shop got paint on passenger seat

Had some body damage which I got repaired. Somehow the shop got some paint on my passenger seat (that seat has only been sat on 3-4 times as I normally drive solo). Went back to the body shop and they attempted to clean it off but only made it worse as the paint spread out.

The owner of the shop is researching what he can do to resolve the issue. What is the cost of a new seat if it comes down to that?

They reupholster the leather of your seat rather than replace the entire sest.

It's not going to come down to a new seat. The worst it would need is a re-upholstering. In my area, that's $300-600 depending on the quality you want. The cost is probably different where you live. Before paying that, you could take it to a leather specialist in your area to see whether it can be cleaned off, and proceed from there.

You try a magic eraser yet? People have reported great results for leather.

The leather is a seat cover and I had them replaced on my old TL years ago due to,issues, rather straight forward. I have no idea the cost, but assume it is not cheap with the labor. I would insist that they pay for your dealer to replace it.

First: The body shop should be on the hook for any damage they did.

Second: If you are just out of luck with the shop recovering is a DIY during a Saturday afternoon. The Expidition seats were eventually damaged by the Sheepdogs & were getting shabby after 8 years of use @ 160K+ miles.

About the only tool you need outside of a wrench to take the seat out is a hog ring pliers. Replace both front seats skins, natural perforated leather & the seat cooling units in a few hours.

I wouldn't worry about the cost, because the body shop will be paying for it.

...and most of us mere mortals are not going to find the leather skin replacement DIY project a simple Saturday afternoon job. Personally I would place it 5/5 on the Sh..t..F....ck Scale.
