9 Speed Transmission Petition to get Acura's attention

Change.org exists for a reason. Can it help any of us that have sub-performing transmissions? We shall see.

Sorry if this seems goofy to anyone. It is worth a try. We don't truly know if there are just a few of us having issues, or if this is a larger problem. I know there have been improvements made, but the transmission in my TLX is still far from one that should be in a luxury car, and defined as "smooth" as Acura has defined.

If you want to, sign the simple petition below, address to Honda and Acura, and their CEO and VP. It can't hurt. This way, Acura can't say they have never heard of the issue before!

Please sign if you have been affected by this at all. I, and everyone else affected, thank you.

Thank you to those that have signed the petition. If you have a spouse that is tired of hearing you complain, have them sign also!

The more signatures we have, the better.

You might get more owners to sign if you post this in the Acura TLX Facebook group page. There's quite a good number of people in that group that aren't part of AZ.

I just posted it there. It only shows up in Visitor Posts. Maybe an Admin of that page will be nice and put it on the main page.

Although I do not own a TLX, I think that people who want to buy an Acura but don't want that transmission should also sign. Acura also needs to know that potential customers, including very loyal customers, are not buying because of the transmission issues. Fix the existing transmission or put a new one in ASAP.

Great point! I know of a couple A-zine members that fit in that group.

I think that is a great idea. If those that are postponing purchase sign, they can add a note as to why they are signing. This would give Acura an idea of possible sales they are missing out on.

We are at 19 signatures currently. If there are 100 of us out there, that will be amazing. This petition will go to Acura once 100 signatures are reached. It will stay open, too.

Every future buyer that has this issue; every future forum member that finds us because of their transmission issue; every Facebook comment about this, and every car review that speaks to the transmission issues: I will post a link to this petition on.

This may take a while to get to 100, but I will try until that happens.

My dealership has been great, but they are at the mercy of Acura, and Acura has decided there are not enough of us to warrant concern. We will see..

Thanks to all for signing. Please send others this way that experience our same issues.

I know ZF has made good and bad trannies. It seems the 9 speed in the Chrysler products sucked as well, but 8 speeds do much better.

I think the issues with the 9 speed tranny are over exaggerated here a bit, after 4-5K the hard shifts do smooth out.
That said it's still an issue Acura should address so consider me in...

Well, I am at 10,700 miles, and still waiting for it to smooth out. Has not happened yet.

what are the problems you experience?

Is it when the gears are changing?

I'm still waiting as well. While it may be more fun to run it up to 5k+ to avoid a hard shift, it's often impractical due to traffic and not wanting to be called a maniac by passengers.

Not necessarily. My dad's BMW 328i has the ZF 8 speed and it does exhibit similar behavior as the 9 speed occasionally. Whenever I drive his car I do drive it more aggressively, so that might be a contributory factor.

I signed because during my test drive I was immediately turned off by the slowly engaging transmission from a stop light. Deal breaker for me.

Did you try sport mode? I think normal mode the tranny is slow and tends to jump to higher gears. I am a bit disappointed as to how conservative the tranny programming is, but that is all about how to get good EPA MPG numbers.

Hard shift on mine occur in all 4 modes.
Odd thing about my car is that I never really had the hard shift issue, but did have the low gear hesitation. After A1 service and the recall/service bulletin software upgrade was applied, I started noticing the hard shift but the hesitation disappeared.

That's what I did. I don't have one yet, but I would like it to be fixed in case I want one eventually.

I also saw someone posted it to their Facebook page wall.

I think the best way to show Acura the problem is you don't buy the car.

Or if you already bought it, trade it in for something else. That will send a much stronger message IMO.

I don't think current owners want to take the unnecessary financial hit of trading the car in at this point. Plus, Acura was already paid for the car- they don't car if someone trades it in now.

It was a very hard decision for me to get rid of my TLX, many members in this section know how much I loved my car when I got her.. then the rolling start shift problem cropped up, then then the software updates that actually seemed to create my 2-3 boom-shift.

The hesitation to downshift at the 20-30 mph issue became more pronounced and proved dangerous at times.

I sure don't like being told that "the issue is exaggerated", as one poster here said. My Acura dealer still has my old TLX sitting on the back lot.

If its software putting in a new transmission will not fix the problem.

I hope the petition gets the attention of Acura and they step up their efforts to rectify the issues some owners are experiencing. My greatest fear is that I go in for my service and they apply the TSB's or whatever updates are available and then I start to have the problems that you guys are experiencing. It's almost like keeping my old laptop with XP because I know it works and I'm not sure the "improved version" will.

I can't justify signing your petition because I have no honest reason to do so, but I wish you all the best of luck in getting a fast resolution.

Are we sure it is software? If so, then write some new code and get this one working....or put in the old 6 speed that works. I don't really care what the solution is, but I think that after a year we should have a solution.

So they sell 50K TLXs and 100 people signing a petition will not get much attention unless you get 1000 or a few thousand. Acura customer service has always sucked. My first 3G I was so turned off by ACS I almost left the brand. The dealer service manger is who took amazing care of me and won me back, same with second TL I bought from them. I am sure they will work this out eventually, then we all know Acura has had a mixed track record with trannys.

Would I bet my life on it, no. That said they are just dumb boxes waiting for something to tell them what to do.

Back in the day they had vacuum & line pressure sensitive servo controls to tell them when to shift, no electronics were involved.

Those when to shift functions are computer driven today, that's why when they are working correctly they are so fast.

Agree about fixing it, but it may be a gear to far. The more gear ratios the more complex become the decisions the computer has to make. Best one I have had so far in automatic mode was the 7DCT in the 335is. The ZF8 in the 435i is almost as good but not quite.

I'm at 8K and still waiting for something resembling a smooth shift from 1-2 and 2-3. Still waiting...

I said over exaggerated a bit, nobody was speaking to your case specifically.

There are quite a few TLX V6 cars on the road, not everyone is having the same issues.

My car for example is fine for the most part, had the software update done yesterday and the tranny is behaving nicely...

You indicated you had a problem with something I said, obviously you took it personally or you wouldn't have mentioned it.

Did I hurt your feelings?
