2018 TLX A-Spec

Hi all, wanted to get opinions on tire size. Currently running stock wheels and tires right now. I need new tires soon and wanted to see if anybody was able to fit 255 on the stock 19" Aspec wheels. Tires are currently 245 in size. Will 255 be too big for the 19" wheels that are only 8" in width. I have been trying to find some info on this, but have been struggling.

I'd stick with the OEM size.

If I stick with 245 could I go with a more negative offset with the stock setup? +40 or +38? I know stock it's +52 would going that much lower cause fitment issues or rubbing?

Sorry, don't know the answer to your offset question. Maybe someone else can chime in with a response.

There might be value in first specifying what you are trying to acheive with your change. Do you want to: 1) Improve handling (dry or wet, or all season) or; 2) Change the look of your wheel/rim package or; 3) Change the car's stance, or ;4) "Just because"??? Understanding your end game might impact the recommendations put forth by the experienced folks responding.

Granted I'm "get off my lawn" age but my first assumption when contemplating a change, or upgrade, is to assume that the manufacturer has optimized the look and functionality, given the restraints of cost, target market, assembly processes, etc. The few changes that I DO make are only when I can see a clear upgrade over the as-is (stock) condition. Other folks may make changes to make their cars different, but that can depend on preferences or taste.

I'm new to the forum, honestly was not quite sure how to go about it. I guess I mostly want to improve the stance of the car. Yes, if improvement in handling comes with changing tire size or the offset, great, but I also did not want to do much aftermarket work with the suspension such as wheel spacers. I understand making changes can sometimes result in worsened handling. Just wanted to see what is obtainable with the stock setup to get a wider stance and have the wheels sit somewhat close to being flush with the fender.

Fetzy Fan,

Very nice, detailed description of what you're looking for. Your write up should give the folks who have traveled similar paths ample information to provide some meaningful guidance. The strength of these sites lies in the many participants, their experiances, knowlege, and specific areas of expertise. Some of them are VERY good in their specific circles of interest.

A couple of "go forward" thoughts. If and when you pull the trigger on your purchases consider posting a short write up (with photos if you feel comfortable in doing so). Information on which specific tires you purchased, likes and dislikes, and even a bit about the seller/installer if they did an exceptional (good or bad) job. This will be helpful to others considering the same type of decisions.

Lastly, enjoy your car. You're asking the right type of questions, to the right people, and hopefully the guidance will get you to where you want to be. The rest is up to you. Well done.
