$500 Accessories Credit

Which accessories are you going to choose for your TLX? My Ebony/Ebony test car had the woodgrain-look steering wheel, and I didn't like it at all. The woodgrain trim was on the top of the wheel and very shiny. I saw a Graphite TLX with the chrome door trim, and it was beautiful. I don't think there would be enough contrast with the SSM, but if you're getting a dark car or even the white, I highly recommend the chrome trim!

I might go with the decklid spoiler, or maybe the protection package I.

I am considering remote start on mine (in 4 years), but protection package one is always a must for me. Of course, I will also need a spare tire. Not happy that this is an extra cost!

The dealer gave me a printout of the price list for the accessories. I just checked their cost vs. Acura's website:

All-Season Floor Mats - Acura's price: $164 / Dealer's price: $230 installed. So they're charging $66 to "install" floor mats?

Trunk Tray - Acura: $130 / Dealer: $185.90

Wheel Locks - Acura: $56 / Dealer: $106.60

Decklip Spoiler - Acura: $397 / Dealer: $685.10

Protection Package I - Acura: $350 / Dealer: $522.60

Does anyone know if I have to spend the $500 at the dealership I purchase from?

I was wondering if we can use the $500 credit to buy the accessories uninstalled, especially for the items like All-Season Floor Mats, Truck Tray, or even some of the other easy install items like Wheel Locks. Doing it this way may allow us to only pay MSRP for these items.

The dealers really want to charge us for floor mats installation? What a rip off! I planned on getting the floor mats and trunk tray.

You could say the same for the rest of the standalone accessories that don't require installation per se. Just dump them in the trunk and I'll do it myself.

I know things are expensive in New York but w...t...f!! That's insane. I'm sure you should just be able to use the credit to buy the accessories without the "install".

Not necessarily being "ripped" because they aren't really "paying" $500 for it. More like being fooled to think these marked up prices are some kind of value. We all know by next year all these OEM accessories will be at realistic prices online in a few months and you can throw any of them on yourself. Don't waste your credit on easy stuff like that.

If given a choice probably the LED foglights would be the best bet. I don't know if the car is already pre-wired for it but if not this would save you the hassle of a DIY and being that they are an electronic item they would be covered under warranty. (If you did foglights yourself they would void warranty and said you wired them in yourself hence the fault.) The installed price is probably more than $500 but if you had to only pay $100-$200 I'd say it's worth it.

These are all good points. If you do these electronic items at the time of purchase they also car the new car warranty (versus 12 mos, 12000 miles if bought later). Obviously the trunk tray will probably hold up fine, but you might wish for a longer warranty on the remote start system for example.

Big selling point on the TLX was that it comes up with full heated seats, heated wheel, and the remote start

Wow $500 is laughable when they are charging folks to 'install' floor mats and cargo dividers and such...

Nope, especially if you do the work yourself. A box of 12 quarts of 0W20 oil + filters (My three Hondas use the same as Acura) cost me around $50. That's almost three oil changes.

What else do you need to do on an Acura with 20,000 miles? I know I haven't done much but change the oil, cabin filter and air filter on my '12 CR-V in 42,000 miles. Hasn't cost me more than $100 in three years

Those are some pretty hefty markups.

I'm curious about that Remote Start for driver 2. Does the advance package not come with remote starters for 2 sets of keys?

My dealer's accessories are even more expensive. How do I embed the document here? I have it saved as a .jpg on Flickr.

I think it depends on where you live and how bad you want/need that stuff. For example, I really don't care about the heated seats, bigger washer fluid reservoir, heated steering wheel, etc. I might want the remote start, though, but still undecided on that.

I kind of want the spoiler. I think the car may look better with it, but again, still undecided.

I also think that $400 for that Protection Package II on the website is a bit much.

And damn, $350 for that Protection Package I is crazy. Most dealers sometimes throw that in when you buy the car (after a few months).

I'm not going to blame dealers or Acura for asking what they're asking, though. It's up to the customer if they want to pay it or not.

The Advance package includes the All Weather Floor Mats and Trunk Tray right? I thought they were included with upgrade but I read somewhere else they aren't included. On my window sticker they aren't mentioned at all. Were they thrown in at the dealership?

I don't believe they're included. On your scan of the accessories that you posted, it looks like Protection Package I is selected. Are you saying you didn't pay the extra $398 for that? BTW, it looks like that price includes about $48 to install wheel locks, trunk tray, and floor mats. Maybe we should all ask for the price "without installation". lol.

You are right about the package 1 being selected on my scan. However that was when I was planning on ordering a Tech package TLX for a later date and had the $500 to spend. I didn't intend to buy the Advance package that day however I couldn't pass the deal he offered me. I just assumed the Advance package came with the mats. I am sure I "paid" for them but again they aren't listed on the sticker.

I don't understand why (and I'm not complaining!), but my dealer told me the inflated prices of their accessories isn't what they would charge me.

I'm thinking of getting the spoiler. How do you think that will look on the TLX?

So far I'm leaning towards adding it to my car when I get it, but I think I've only seen it on a white car "in the flesh". And even then, I only saw it with the body kit which I don't think I'll get. There are pics in the "Photograph Gallery" section of the 5G forum that show a white car with it and the splashguards. That's probably what I'll end up with unless I change my mind at the last minute.

Thanks Rocketsfan - I forgot the black car I did my test drive in had a spoiler:

https://flic.kr/p/oDJGoz

It looks great on both colors, I think it should look nice on the SSM too!

Does the chrome door trim serve a purpose for door dings, or just for looks?

If you look how low it is (see Acura website), it can't serve any purpose besides looks. Same for the body-colored door molding.

I purchased the all season mats and trunk tray with my accessories credit at MSRP the day I got the car. Then I went back a few days later to get a sunshade and initially they didn't want to give me it because they said the credit should have been used upon delivery. They didn't tell me that and the salesman was surprised as I was too. The GM authorized the Sunshade and they submitted the order because none was in stock. Make sure you all order your accessories upon delivery.

I plan to get the chrome door trim and front mud guards on my Graphite Luster V6.

Hopefully someone can post/ink to the PDF install instructions for the various accessories then we can determine which we want to do ourselves.

Y'all do realize that everything is negotiable. That $500 credit should work out to about $1K in "installed prices".
