TPMS Failure message question

A few months ago I got new tires (Continental Extreme DWS) and America's/Discount Tires. I was told I needed new TPMS because the sensor can get dirty. The new sensors worked just fine for several months (over 10k miles).

Today the TPMS error is coming on and will not go away and none of the tire pressures are displayed. My question is, could the fault be the new non-OEM tire sensors that were put in with new tires? If so I wouldn't think all 4 will go bad at the same time. My suspicion is that the "receiver" unit in the car is bad.

Just trying to figure out if I should take it back to the dealer for this. Obviously the tire pressures are okay but just a very annoying message I have to clear through plus the yellow warning sign on the dashboard.

Anybody else with similar problems?

It could be one of the sensors or all. Was there one that would show a higher or lower psi before the error? I had oem ones out in with aftermarket rims and the guy who mounted the tpms on one wheel cracked it and didn't tell me. While I was driving to Seattle from Vancouver, I got the error. I went to the Acura dealer there and they opened that tire and saw that the tpm had actually broken in half. One faulty tpm can cause the system error so that no pressures will show up and you end up with the warning on the information screen as well as the low tire pressure light on the dash. They replaced that one and now everything is working fine. Also there isn't any programming needed just drive for a bit and it will work. One tire shop wanted to charge me 50 bucks to reprogram. I would just buy oem ones off eBay or from www.oemAcuraparts.com, their prices are pretty good.

Thanks, I think you might be right. Stupid aftermarket parts. I do recall the left rear sensor not displaying any pressure for a few minutes days before the failure, but then it reappeared so I thought all was well. Actually I do hear a funny sound when I inflated that tire today, so maybe like you said a part of the TPMS broke off and is flying around inside!

I would try a DIY but not handy enough to do this kind of work myself hopefully will escape with a cheap bill at the dealership.

Not really a DIY unless you can mount tires on rims. But any proper tire shop should be able to do it cheaper than a dealer. Just get the TPM yourself.

Its the OEM Acura TPMS right? If so just press the "i" on the steering wheel until you reach to the TPMS section and just hold the "Reset/Select" button for a 10 sec or so and see if that will reset it. Or just go to your manual booklet and look at the section for TPMS reset.

Problem was a single failed TPMS unit, replaced by dealer with no charge!

This morning when I started my 2010 TL SH-AWD with stock 18" rims and tyres the TPSM Error warning came on on the MID and the low tire pressure symbol was on. I cycled to the tire pressure indicator screen on the MDS and NO tire pressures were showing. All 4 tire pressures are actually fine. I have had no work done on the rims or tyres. The TPMS worked fine up until today.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks!
