SH-AWD Rim Debate

Im trading in my 2010 Tech SH AWD for a 2012 Tech SH AWD. I'm debating whether I should have the dealer swap my old 40k mile stock rims onto the new car. I really dislike the new rims, think they are ugly and boring. My struggle is with what it will do when I go to trade the 12 in? Will dealers knock me down for having an older gen rims? I got conflicting views from my dealer.

I've ruled out getting the advance, I don't want the ride of 19's.

I kept the 19's just put 45 series rubber on them so the ride is better than the stock wheels/tires

And yes, most likely they will ding you for non-stock rims unless they are an OEM upgrade. These days they will find any reason they can to ding you. You're trading in a two year old car, possibly you may want to ask your sales person what they will do when you trade in the '12 w/'10 wheels.

No they wont. If they are OEM wheels its fine. You're talking about the 18" 5 spokes from the 09-11 TL models right? I would go ahead and ask them to do that if I were you. I don't like the new 18's either

The dealer can do anything for you. Trust me. If you wanted to put Caddy wheels on your car they would do it. For the right price, they will do anything. Trade in with different wheels will make no difference in the price,.

I like the 19s but the 18s are really nice in there gun metal type of finish. One of the better looking wheels the car has.

I absolutely love my mags on the 10 SH-AWD, but the 18" Mags on the 12 SH-AWD are very nice and although I prefer the 10's I would take the 12's. That said, why not spend the extra and get the model up with the 19". They look great.

How long are you planning to keep the 2012 before trading it in ?

If you so decide to keep the car for many years, accessories such as aero kit and rims become insignificant in the final resale value of the car.

The way I see it, you can get the rims used for pretty cheap, so I got the 18s for now and when these tires wear out, I will probably get the 19s.

i swapped my 12 wheels for some from a 10 and like the 10's better. i like the darker less shinny finish of the 10 wheels. also, no need to flame for the red caliper covers, they are coming off.

The HPT upgrade consists of the 19" wheels and Michelin PS tires, so I'm not sure how yours is an HPT with 18's.

BTW, I'm selling my 19" OEM wheels / tires. PM me if interested.

I agree that the 2010 wheels are a bit nicer, but the 2012 wheels also look great. When i traded in my 2010, i didn't even bother asking about the wheels. I bought the 2012 SH-AWD with the 18's, and picked up a set of the 19inch OEM Diamond Cut wheels. So i'll use the 19's for summer, and 18's for winter. When the rubber on the 18's wear out, i'll throw dedicated snow tires on them. That's what i did, you should consider also. Keep the stock wheels for now, and if you do decide to change them, atleast you have a set of OEM rims for winter and/or Trade in for future.

I bought the car cert. used from Acura! Something doesn't add up here. I asked the manager and he said thats how it came. I suspect that he sold the "19 to some johnny and gave me the 18" cos' my door sticker shows 19's.

What you want for you wheels?

i also dislike the 2012 SH wheels and I have a set of 11 on my 12. the 09-11 gunmetal grays look a lot like the S-Line audi a4 wheels and the 12's look like the previous gen Lexus GS which to me is outdated/boring now.

Love the 2009 19" rims, the opening and darker color make a huge dofference. As far as the quality of the ride goes, I swtiched to a set of 60k mile HP Kumho's and the ride, braking...wet/dry is on point. Add to that the road noise isn't crazy either.

Meh, the 18" wheels are lighter, and I like the look better.

HPT was this set-up with Pilot Sport:

Personally, I would take the Enkei Racing RPF1 in 18x8.5, The TireRack has them for less than $300ea right now and they weight a mere 18lbs each.
