Question about getting new tires
So over the weekend I got 4 brand new Continental ExtremeContact DWS to replace my stock Michelin tires. You know the weights that go inside the rim? Well, obviously when you get new tires they have to balance them and move the weight. Question to all of you that have had this done, did they have to "buff" the area where they were going to stick the weight in order to get it to stick? Discount tires did and ended up scratching the $hit out of my rims and when they removed the weight it left the residue from the old spot. I didn't think this was normal and brought it back to Discount today and they said they were going to buy me 4 brand new rims (same ones). I totally wasn't expecting new rims and told them if they could resurface the inside I was totally fine with it. He said they can only fix rims that are curbed on the outside which mine are (haha) but once they were scratched on the inside where the weight goes they had to replace the rim.
I felt bad for having them order me new rims but what would have happened if I had after market wheels? I would've been so pissed!!
So my question is has this ever happened to any of you?

Drifting
Buff, no. They usually just cleaned the area with alcohol. In the cases when they had to place the weights where they removed previous weights, they cleaned the area with goo gone to remove the adhesive residue and they cleaned the area with alcohol.

Had them (Discount) damage some stock wheels that have the snows on them. Fortunately the large spoke blocks the damage and it is not visible from the outside (I don't care about the rims anyhow). This is a rookie mistake. I've seen a rookie take the mirror off a F-350 while attempting to get it in the shop at another tire store. Shit happens. Don't feel bad.
