Thumbs up To get Winter tires or get better all seasons

Hey guys, just wanted some input on this. This would go more toward people who have long winters and since it's already the end of January.

I need to replace the stock tires for my 09 Acura TL SH-AWD they have only a few more months of tread life left on them.

Should I go ahead and put winter tires on it for the remaining months? was going to probably the Michelin Alpin PA4's or X Ice Xi-3 and put them on my stock Rims then get 19's for the spring/summer paired with Michelin Super Sport tires.

Just wanted some input in what people think / have done and if it's worth it to put Winters on the car.

Seeing as how you are in Ontario, I would definitely get the winters, and put them on now. There's plenty of winter left, and if you slide ever so gently into the car in front of you while wearing all-seasons, you'll always wonder if you might have stopped a few feet short with the winters.

SH-AWD is nice, but for a Canadian winter, if I had a choice, I'd take winter tires over the AWD. Having both is best, of course.

^^^^ What he/she said. AWD+winter tires=safe winter ride (and don't have a cocky attitude). Cost of avoiding an accident should easily off set cost of extra set of tires/rims.

Ive done two winters on conti dws and one on mich pilot sport 2, the original tires are horrible in the winter. I haven't had any problems in the winter with the new tires. If you live in a metropolitan area i probably wouldn't get winters, your roads are clear 99% of the time.

All Seasons cant even come close to comparing to Winters. Get the winters. Snow tires arent really about being able to go thru deep snow (though they do it well) what they are about is the added control when turning and braking, especially on ice.At 30mph a snow tire will stop over 30ft shorter than the best all season. That could easily mean avoiding an accident or sliding into an intersection.

buddy I am from Edmonton Alberta. You know how much snow and cold we get here. "worst winter tires are better than best all seasons "
I went with Falken Eurowinter HS449 from Kal tire for $700 installed
I am very happy with them I had Aplin PA4 on my 545i and xi-3 on my gs350
and I can tell you that falkens are as good as them I have already put 10k on them and very happy with my decision

Get the winter tires for the winters, especially you're in the Canada east coast; and use only sticky summer tires for the summer months.

All-season tires are never as good as dedicated winter tires on snow/ice, and also never as good as dedicated sticky summer tires for the hot summer roads.

I'm in Pennsylvania and because my brother in law is now using my Tahoe after he wrecked his 4 Runner, I am now driving my SH-AWD TL in the winter. Just ordered a set of Pilot Alpin PA4s. They get put on tomorrow. I will let you know how they feel.

Yeah let me know how they feel I have mine on order and will have them on the car by end of next week.

I choose the PA4 over the X-ICE Xi3's because of the superior dry handling and performance over all it may have less bite in deep snow but we don't really get all that much deep snow here.

Now I just need to find a 19" rim that will go on my car but been having a hard time pairing Rims on my white TL

It's just money... Winter/summer setup is prob 25-3500 for two sets of tires and a set of 19's... Vs say 700-800 for a good set of AS. Saying that I run a winter summer and believe in it

You're in Edmonton? What colour is your ride...I'll have to keep a lookout for you? And why does your location say "USA"?

THIS. This is the most important thing to keep in mind, and why AWD is never alternative for winter tires.

You can read my Pilot Alpin PA4 review I did back in Jan 2013, when this new Michelin high performance snow tires first came out.

https://acurazine.com/forums/4g-tl-tires-wheels-suspension-298/snow-tire-review-michelin-pilot-alpin-pa4-879471/

I'm using the heavy OEM 19" wheels for the PA4 right now, and some light-weight aftermarket wheels for the super-sticky Pilot Super Sport for the summer.

+1 for the PA4's. I have them and they are awesome on both snow and dry pavement. Highly recommend.

4 Winters if live where have real winters. Great article in latest C&D on this. Nothing beats real snow tires.

Then get some HiPerf summers and good to go, best of both worlds.

Yeah I actually read your review before writing this thread. I also found that the PA4 is a highly recommended tire for performance in the snow on a lot of high end cars.

What light weight rims did you end up getting?

I'm having a hard time deciding on Rims still for the spring lol 19" of some sort Light Weight.

I decided to put on the PA4's over X-Ice Xi-3 and boy do they cut through slush and snow. They can handle deep snow really well too.

Thanks for the previous review in your thread.

No problem.

That's what this forum is for : to share experiences and help one another.

Remember to ditch those crappy OEM all-season tires. The SH-AWD TL deserves nothing but the stickiest summer tires during the summer months.

Just put blizzak lm 60 on my stock wheels. Like them so far, I don't know if I really want to lower and get rims for it. Third World problems.

Snows in the Winter, All seasons in the summer

Have always been a snow tire fan, more control and just overall feeling of safety even in the cold dry they are better than all seasons.

Grab another set of rims so you don't have to take on/take off and just mount up and go (two times you pay for the rims these days).

My 2 cents but I never go a winter without snows, plus makes my other tires last longer too!
