Acura TL SH-AWD winter tires 225/55/17

Hi guys,

I was suggested by my local tire shop and dealer to go with 225/55/17 on my TL for winter tires...does anyone have this size tires for winter? I'm sure they are good for traction but I feel I will compromise the looks of the car...Seems to me it will look like a bumper car in that size wheels coming from 19" HPT...If anyone chose to go that way, can you let me know how you feel about the look and also pictures would be great.

Thanks

I ordered my winter tire package from TireRack as well and got that size and car was just fine. Car is like a tank in the snow and I don't tink it looks that bad.
For Summer I have the 18" Tech Wheels so no big deal. And you figure the base models come with 17's and I think these look better than the base 17" OEM wheels.
This is the only picture I have with the Winters on the car. You should be able to click on the picture and make it larger.

The narrower section is great for snow, and provides better handling than wider section 245 tires. Narrower sections and minus sizing will also tend to be much less expensive.

So it really depends if you are gong to be doing a lot of cold weather driving, or honest to god snow driving. If so, the narrower section is better. You can survive for 4 months looking less than ultra cool, while secure in the knowledge that for winter weather you have a good combo...it's not like you will be driving fast, anyway.

Make sure pay attention to load ratings.

Wow! Those look great on the black TL!!! Nice mags!!! How much did you paid for those 5 star mags? I ordered Nokian Hakka 2 tires after the advise of my tire shop...Told him I wanted good one's and he suggested those...Anyone heard of Nokian before? Are they good, great or excellent?

Samba, those wheels are NICE! Are they the Elbrus wheels from Tire Rack? How do you like them? Do you like the finish? It looks pretty shiny online, is it really THAT shiny or does it look good?

Can you show us a larger picture so we can see the wheels more clearly please? Thanks so much!

Nokian is excellent. I had two sets on smaller cars before. They are hard to find in my area (Ontario, Canada). Most of the local tire stores do not carry them.

I got this winter set (Elbrus I06, Dunlop D3 including TPMS) last year from TireRack. I paid ~$1900 delivered to the door.

They are Elbrus I06 Black. I like the look very much. However, I had wheel balance issue when they arrived. I had to have it re-balanced at a local Acura dealership.

I will upload a larger photo later when I have a chance.

They look best at park. I think that they match pretty well on CBP . When the wheels spin, they look a bit shinny because of the silver trim reflecting light.

Thanks, Samba! They look great with CBP! I wonder how they would look with Mayan Bronze? Anyway, do you find them easy to clean? Also, does the black accent come off or get scratched easily?

The OEM 17" wheels make them look tiny, but this one makes the 17" size look OK!

Bazoulay, you can sign up with Photobucket for a free account, then it will give you a link to post photos on sites like this. Then you can do that easily! Hope this helps.

A 18" will look nicer. I put on the winter wheels today. I do not notice any problem with the black accent. What I can say so far is that it survived the first winter reason here last year.

Beefy tires, I bet those destroy the snow! I like the wheels.

Are you in Canada and have the winter tires on already? I always debate when to put mine on... but I think I have another week or so.

Wheels look really nice on the car. Nice contrast with the white. 17" wheels are always going to look to small for these cars.

Ya snows will be going on this weekend for sure. All bets are off after Thanksgiving.

Very nice! I quite like the M6 replicas. I just put on Dunlop Winter Sport M3s on my stock tech 18s on the weekend. But it's been raining here so far and has been warm. Don't think it's going to last long though. Cold weather should be here soon.
