Worth it to get propeller shaft replaced?

Or just put the money into a new car? I bought it used, so the warranty doesn't work. It was certified preowned by the previous owner, but not me. I DID buy it from the dealership.

They're quoting 1800 total after labor and tax, I might be able to get my local guy to do 1500 or so. Is this the only major fix these models can have? Or is there potential for more?

Check local Driveshaft/Transmission re builders I had a shop quote me 2-3 hours labor at 60$ per hr and 145$ for the center bearing to be replace/rebuilt. Who knows if it will be better than OEM?

Lots of propeller shaft threads lately. Must be the cold weather aggravating the bearings or something:

Is it worth it? From a financial standpoint, I'd say yes, at least compared to purchasing another car. Some have had to replace theirs more than once but the cost would still pale in comparison to many BMW's or Merc's with much higher and more frequent repair bills. I had a piston ring replaced on my TL which cost me $2200. Heck, that's not a whole lot less than the tax, title and license I'd have to pay on a different car let alone the loss I'd take in selling it and buying one that might very well have another problem.

The only way I can think that it would be worth it is if you're jumping to a different model or brand. But I wouldn't sell a 4G TL AWD for a different one since many of them have the same propeller shaft issue.
