I get that too. Happens only when the engines cold or something. Doesn't seem like it's bad.

I get that too. Its the waking moan of a little girl in a white dress who sleeps on your back seat during dark, lonely night drives.

I have to agree with the others on this one. My car only does this on the very cold days. its not all the time but every so often.

I think there are a few threads about cold start noises. One of these is attributed to the drive belt tensioner pulley bearing. It starts as a whistle noise for a few seconds and then after a few weeks/months, it turns into a scratching noise when the bearing in that pulley really goes. You try to rev up the engine a bit from dead cold to hear it too.

The real reason the bearing gets damaged is when it gets cold, the pulley gets out of alignment and with the tension applied to the belt it rotates a bit sideways, so it kills itself. Replacing it involves removing the drive belt, removing 1 14mm bolt and after you bolt on the new one try to remember how to thread the drive belt back on. I think the pulley goes for around $30. Not a biggie, but for safety get a new belt too.

I did mine last week. If you still have warranty, just tell the dealer what to look for. If they can't hear it, tell them to check their hearing
