Trunk scratch off the lot
Trunk scratch off the lot
I just bought a 2010 TL SH-AWD about a month ago. After driving it home, I noticed that there was a minimal scratch on the top of the trunk (something that definitely didn't happen on the way home). They claimed that they hadn't noticed it, but who knows.
I called the sales guy and he said that he would have his buffer guy take it out. So I went back and he did an okay job (scratch is 90% gone, you have to get really close to see it now), but when it is dark out and there is some light reflected on it, I can see the buffer marks that the guy made.
I called him back and they are willing to give it another try, but I'm hesitant that they may make it more noticable or not be able to do anything. Pretty frustrating to see one half of the trunk with streaks and the other half look perfect.
Any advice is much appreciated.

Junnila, this sounds like the classic "swirl" marks left by the detailer's buffer machine. I doubt that a second pass will imporve it, in fact, if anything, it will get worse. I suggest you try 3 to 5 coats of Finish FIrst, http://www.finishfirstautopolish.com...IRSTPOLISH.htm. This is a little known product outside of professional auto show circles, made by a small but dedicated chemical company in West Virginia. I have used it for over twenty years on all my cars with excellent results: unlike other polishes or wax products, this is a polymer, and you can apply many coats which will progressively deepen the lustre and fill minor scratches. I typically apply 7 coats over a 48 hour period every summer. The key is to follow directions carefully and be patient, allowing each coat to dry for at least 3-4 hours before applying the next. Good luck.
^^ I wouldn't use a filler polish, then you always have to keep reapplying it. I'd say take it back to the dealer until they do it right. Clearly the guy using the rotary doesn't know what the hell he is doing. If he knew how to use the rotary properly with the right polish he would have probably gotten most of the scratch out. Always depends on how deep the scratch is (can you catch it with your fingernail?).
Main thing, their buffer guy introduced buffer swirls, so it's their responsibility to make it right.
