Trunk Opening

Yes, It is a TECH package.. I have seen it open the trunk even when I get near the trunk with the key in my pocket.. Maybe a little to sensitive... but not sure why it would opne in th emiddle of the night when the key is not even close..

There are 4 ways to open the trunk on a Tech:

1. The manual release in the pass through
2. Door mounted button
3. Trunk lid button w/ the remote sensor
4. Press and hold the 'trunk' button on the remote

Of these choices, I would think the most likely one is somehow the release button on the remote is being accidentally depressed. Maybe as you enter the house so you don't notice it till later? Of course, it might be simply screwing up...

How tight are your pants around the fob? I think there is something pressing on the button. Happened to me when I wore too tight jeans one day, only the panic button kept going off!

Hahaha - ummm - nope.

Hey Colin - I think I pass by your dealership all the time - I fly into Honolulu every other month for a weekend of running and relaxing. I'm headed there the last weekend of this month.

Oh - topic is FOB - ummm... what is the range from where you store it at night to where your vehicle is?

Yeah, in the summer we moved our store to Ala Moana Blvd. Now everyone going in and out of Waikiki drives right past us.

Simply screwing up...

I appreciate all the insight.. ( Tight pants and all ) but I think it is just screwing up! The trunk key on the remote is not the one you would think might get accidentally pushed.. The trunk is never found open when the car has been locked. It happens about 5 out of 7 nights a week!

Thankfully it is not wearing down the battery, but I suspect it will some day.. Guess it is time to get the dealer to look at it..

Good luck, hope you get it resolved. Keep us posted.

Had it in to the dealer, they said they replaced the trunk release mechanism and it is fixed.. but it did not fix it.. Today I came out in the garage and the trunk was open, I closed it, then as I was backing out of the garage it opened again.. Very Frustrating

I'm curious, have you tried to turn off the trunk release in the glove box? I doubt it will change much, but if the problem stops, at least you'll have more information for service.

Could there possibly be something in your garage or close to your home that is operating at the same frequency as the remote? I have no idea what the frequency is for these things. Just a thought.

Had a rental (lincoln) that kept popping the trunk on me and turned out to be the clubs sliding back and forth on cornering were snagging the safety release handle inside the trunk.

Actually, the dealer suggestted that the remotes for other things in my garage may be causing it, so suggested replacing the batteries in the remotes. Have to say the problem seemed to be less an issue for awhile. However, went away for a week, and some time during the week the trunk opened ( so I know it was not my pants...) and of course drained the battery! Dureing the last week, the problem is getting worse, now, frequently when I unlock the doors by touching the driver handle, the trunk also opens.. and tonight after the car was in reverse, the trunk opened. ( this is the first time I have seen it happen while in gear). Since it is NEVER repeatable, I still can't seem to get the dealer to figure out what the problem is.. ( to me this must be a sensor in the trunk failing or the computer )
